“Real variety”

I enjoyed this museum the most of any Smithsonian. I loved seeing history come alive. Exhibits were fun and thought provoking.

“Spectacular”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Liked it all...so big that the crowds are spread throughout the museum. The sculpture gardens are so peaceful and a nice place to sit and rest. The rooms are well marked indicating what period of art and what type of art and all free!

“This museum houses some real treats!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

The chronological exhibit of presidential portraits, I find to be a highlight. There is usually some temporary exhibit in the galleries directly after the presidents (When I visited, it was the Outwin Boocheever Portrait Competition Finalists... a great show that will be up a while longer. Check on available exhibits that will be on during your stay.)

Also, a highlight for me is the large collection 19th Century art (but there is a good selection of Contemporary & Modern Art for those of you who tend toward that)

There is a lovely courtyard where you can sit & rest a while after a day of museum going. And there is a café available for casual fare. (Though it closes earlier than does the museum.)

It is nice that this museum is open a bit later (11:30am-7:00pm) than those on the National Mall (close between 5:00-5:30pm)

This is a worthwhile museum to visit! I've spent the better part of a day here, though I am a painter & spend much time with the paintings I enjoy. I would estimate you could allow two hours & get a good visit in.

“Best museum food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We had time to go to many museums. We snacked at all of them.
Of all the food offered the best available was at this museum. It was different than the choices offered at any other location and it was by far the best.Prices are still high.

“Some wonderful stuff if you have extra time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We stumble upon this one and we were glad we did. There was a great exhibit called Poetic Likeness that focused on authors. It's really a good one. It was fun stop. There were also free storage lockers near the entrance, which was convenient.
