“Great museum of American art--open until 7 PM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

This is one of the few museums in DC open after 5 PM, it usually is open until 7 PM. It is in the original Patent Building, so the interior has some classic 19th century touches. The collection covers a wide range of American art and some of the rooms are so huge that large pieces can be seen effectively. This is a great place for those who are interested in American Art. Also in the same building, on the other side is the National Portrait Gallery. There is a cafeteria which is not impressive and is over priced. There are many dining options in the area around the museum and Chinatown is only a block away. Parking is difficult in the area so public transportaion is a better option to get here.

“Impressive”

If you love art then this is a must see. Like all the Smithsoneon buildings it is free to enter.

The collections are very impressive and varied in their style and range.

“A fun free fun day out for all!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

If you are looking for a no frills, fun day out with friends and family; a day or two visit to the smithsoniam mall is really your answer. It is vast and there are lots of things to see. If you keep on walking there are other musuems in the area. We went to the Afro american musuem and the history one, and found all of them informative. There are lots of interactive activities to keep you going, especially, if you have a ten year old like myself.
Make sure you take your own water and a few snacks with you, as the water costs $3 per .5 ltr (whatever that is in mls- you work it out!!)
We also crossed over to the air space museum and fell in love with it, at the end of the hall on the lower ground, you find the food court - Macdonald never dissapoints ! All in all a lovely day out and guess what it cost nothing!

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2011

Loved it! SO many beautiful things to see and it was so difficult not to touch any of them! But beware, do NOT get to close or the security guards will be on you in a matter of seconds. Oh and don't use a flash when taking a picture!

“Great Museum with plenty to see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2010

Really enjoyed this museum. The art work is amazing and each room is beautifully painted. I especially enjoyed the Norman Rockwell exhibit which ends Jan. 2, 2011 so get there soon!
