“Convenient location with several dining options”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Enjoyed a one day visit within walking distance of several restaurants, attractions and the convention center. Friendly and helpful bellman and breakfast area staff. Hotel was clean with rooms well supplied with towels, etc. Comfortable beds, reasonable price. Parking a little high at $34 pls $6 tax.

We stayed here with family this past weekend, choosing it because of its proximity to Chinatown and other downtown attractions. The rooms were more than adequate and the price seemed reasonable in comparison to other hotels in the vicinity. Staff was pleasant despite appearing overwhelmed at times.

But there were a number of negatives: The elevators were very slow (inadequate design?); the hot tub water was green and opaque, thus it appeared not to have been changed for a long, long time; the drop off space at the curb by the hotel entry was woefully inadequate such that cars waiting to drop off or pick up actually had to stop and block the street traffic, with honking and irritated motorists; the breakfast area was crowded, noisy and dirty on the weekend; and if you have to park you car with the hotel -- and there is very little in the way of alternatives -- it will cost you more than $40 per night, tax included. Seemed a bit much. We probably will check out other options when we plan our next trip to DC.

Had a great weekend and the hotel accommodations were a part of our overall positive experience in DC.
Friendly & helpful staff from at front desk, valet, baggage storage and breakfast area. Hotel was clean and well maintained including our room (standard king). Price was reasonable for a downtown hotel and the location provided easy access to many close-by attractions and the DC Metro (subway).
Parking charge - rate was in line with other hotels in the area, I just generally hate to pay that much just to park my car, especially when it is just going to sit unused the entire weekend. $34 a day plus a parking tax really adds to the weekend expenses.
We arrived early on a Friday at approx 11:00 am. We were expecting to put our bags into storage and head out to a museum. We pleasantly surpirsed to find that we could check into our room already. This got the weekend off to a nice start and set the tone for our stay at this Hampton Inn. We will return for sure!

We stayed here for seven nights in October. We had a one bedroom king suite, which was enormous for two people. The cost was pretty reasonable, considering the facilities, space and location. Staff members were all very pleasant and helpful.

There was a lounge area (with TV, sofa, two lounge seats, computer desk and chair, etc, etc.); a bedroom (with another TV and plenty of storage drawers); bathroom (divided into a washbasin area with a wardrobe behind folding mirrored doors, and a room with a bathtub/shower and a toilet); and a kitchen area (with a small refrigerator, coffee maker, sink and microwave). We had a reasonable view of the Washington Monument from the window.

The room was kept very clean. When we arrived, there were two bottles of water and two small packets of Oreo cookies, but these were not replaced during our stay. There were also fresh filter coffee sachets, which were replaced.

Generally the room decor was in good condition and comfortable, but the lounge chairs and sofa showed signs of fraying at the edges. The folding door to the wardrobe did not open very well and needed a bit of a heavy push to get it to close. Other than these, everything was fine. We slept well on the very comfortable bed and were not bothered by noise from traffic or other rooms.

The aircon, which was located below two windows, was a little noisy and gave out quite a hefty blast (especially in the bedroom) even when the fan was turned low. This didn't really worry us because the nights were quite mild. Aircon in the corridors was icy!

The hotel was not too full, and we had no problems with the elevators (even though we were on a high floor). Breakfast was OK and reasonable quality, with fresh fruit, waffles, breads, cakes, pastries, cereals, egg, etc. The serving area was a little crowded at peak times, but we could always find a table; and there were lots of throwaway plates/bowls/cups/cutlery.

We felt safe in the hotel's location. There were Metro stations within a few minutes' walk, and some good restaurants in the area (such as Legal Seafoods and Matchbox). The White House, Capitol, Smithsonian Museums and main galleries were within easy walking distance. The memorials around the Tidal Basin can be reached on foot without too much effort if you are reasonably fit.

Overall, we would be very happy to stay here again.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for 4 nights late September. We were very comfortable, however our room was close to the lifts, which we found to be noisy. The staff were very friendly, and obliging. The hotel is in a great location, with many top quality restaurants within walking distance.
Once the renovation is finished the facilities will be even better, however we felt the quality of the breakfast was average, compared to other hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the lifts and not facing 6th street, due to noise level.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn because they had a swimming pool and we had our grandkids. We were told that a rollaway would be provided. We also were told it was convenient walking to everything.
The pool wasn't heated! The hot tub didn't work at all and there were signs not to use it. They said we couldn't get a rollaway because of fire regulations.
The lobby is under construction. The entire area around the hotel is under construction and it's a long walk or a cab to any decent restaurant. You don't want to walk through this neighborhood with kids.
The hotel has no food at all other than a mediocre breakfast buffet. There's no place to even buy water other than the vending machines which in our case was entirely empty of water, Coke and diet Coke.
We were paying a rate of 354/night including taxes. After two nights of our scheduled 6 night stay we left and went to the JW Marriott for 332/night plus taxes for a comparative rate of $378/night. There is really no comparison at all between the two hotels! The Marriott brought in a rollaway; the pool and hot tub were perfect; there is a store, Starbucks, room service, a nice restaurant in the hotel and many more all around it. From the Marriott we truly could walk to museums, the White House, The Monuments ect.
The Hampton Inn is in my opinion only suitable for undecerning business men attending an event at the convention center who don't intend to be in the hotel much and don't intend to go sight seeing. If women or kids are involved, they will hate this hotel and the neighborhood is not safe for them. If such a guest could get a Hotwire rate of $200, it might make sense.
In our case this hotel was recommended by an incompetent travel agent and we prepaid for 6 nights. I now need to fight for a refund of the remaining 4 nights. A desk supervisor told me there would be a refund, but I'll believe it when I see it as these are the people who said we would get a rollaway, the pool was great, we could get water from the vending machines, etc.
The whole two night experience with the Hampton Inn was a complete disappointment.

Easy walk from Union Station to this hotel. Plenty of dining options near by. We ate Thai in Chinatown the first night and used Legal Seafoods the next. Room was clean and well-appointed. Hot breakfast was excellent and the sitting and eating area is newly renovated and spacious. Staff is efficient, friendly and very eager to please. Busy schedule prevented us from trying out the fitness center or indoor pool. Lobby is being renovated now, and management was on hand to ensure that no one was being inconvenienced during the process. Used D.C. Circulator to get to Georgetown and route runs within a block of the hotel.
