“Good value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2007

I spent three nights at this hotel while attending training for business. I found the staff pleasant and the amenities above average for the price.

I arrived in DC by train and walked to the hotel from Union Station -- a bit of a hike that I would not make after dark. But I was just back in the US after more than a week in Europe, so the exercise felt good after long air and train rides.

Check-in went smoothly and I was soon settled in my room with a king bed, internet, a large clean bathroom, and a mini fridge. I tried out the pool but found it too small to really swim in. I did enjoy a short soak in the hot tub. Even late on a Sunday evening there were plenty of clean towels in the pool area.

Throughout my stay I received daily newspapers and enjoyed the typical hearty breakfast. The hotel was busy, but the staff kept the serving and dining areas stocked and tidy. Another nice offering at Hampton Inn's is their "to go" breakfasts -- pre packaged and waiting at the concierge desk. I've never taken one, but I appreciate the option. I'm sure it's more cost effective for the hotel then seeing guests stuff food from the buffet into their bags. When I came in after dinnner in the evening there were always fresh baked cookies at the front desk -- an unexpected nice touch.

The hotel is close to China Town and its strip of restaurants and stores. I even walked from my training site on Third Street to the Mall, along it for a stretch, then back up past the Verizon center to the hotel one evening. So although the hotel is on the northern side of the city, it's very convenient for the main attractions.

It's not a resort by any stretch, but the accommodations and location are certainly a good value for the price in a typically expensive city.

This is a great hotel to stay at on the weekend. The rate we paid was just $125 including all taxes. The valet parking is $25 plus $3 tax. The hotel is clean, roomy and beautiful. They offer free high speed internet access. Coffee service is available all day and night. In the evening they offer lemonade and cookies. Breakfast is free, fresh and delicious. They offer lots of options, from hot foods to baked goods.

The hotel is steps away from the Verizon center. The national mall is a long walk or short bus ride away. We really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Staff was great!

We spent a week here in the middle of September.

Location - on the edge of Chinatown, about 30 minutes walk to popular sights such as the White House, Capitol and Washington Monument. Didn't feel threatened in any way.

Room - we had an inside-facing room so no traffic noise to speak of, nor were we disturbed by other guests. A spacious room with a very large (king-sized) and comfortable bed. Air conditioning worked well and was easily adjusted - the fan can be turned off at night if you find it too noisy. There was a bath and shower - the bath was quite small but manageable.

Facilities - there are ice and drink vending machines on the floors. We sometimes found we had to wait a while for an elevator.

Breakfast - the hotel does not have its own restaurant so breakfast was served in rooms off the lobby. Presumably there are no washing-up facilities either, as disposable plates and plastic cutlery are used and then thrown away - can't be much good for the environment! There was a very limited selection of hot food, with items recurring after 2/3 days, and an equally restricted range of cold meats and cheese. The best part of breakfast was the selection of breads and cakes.

Price - we booked over the internet at a rate of $309 for 5 nights + $169 for 2 nights for the room, including taxes etc. The bill initially showed the $309 rate for all 7 nights but, when I showed them the reservation confirmation, a revised invoice was produced after about 5 minutes. It's always a good idea to print these things off wherever you're going!

Overall, a decent hotel. I understand it's not been there for very long.

I was the Hampton inn for 2 nights on a business trip. This hotel is beautiful. Check in took literally about 2-3 minutes, the hotel staff was very nice.
BEWARE of cab services... my group had asked one of the hotel employees (gentlemen who is on the right side as soon as you enter the hotel) for a cab and I guess he called one of his friends. He came in a Yukon to pick us up and literally drive us to a restaurant that is about 5 minutes away. There were 16 us so he made 2 trips and charged us $90!!! if we would have taken a regular cab on the street it would have only been $16! what a rip off!
Other than everything was great.

I stayed here after reading reviews online. We didn't need a car - the Metro was super convenient, and many attraction are within walking distance of the hotel. The intersection is busy, but we didn't hear traffic noise at all (or fire engines).

The morning complimentary breakfast is more than just a standard hotel continental - one day we had bagels with bacon, eggs & cheese. Another morning, there were french toast sticks. Service staff was very attentive, and there was always plenty of clean seating.

Pool was disappointing - I thought it was heated, but it was ice cold. Hot tub more than made up for it. The exercise room was more than adequate.

Room was very clean & comfortable - especially the bed (VERY comfy!). Toiletries were always restocked, as were the towels. Coffee pot is in the bathroom, which is weird to me. There was a fridge out in the room which came in handy for bottled water.

There is a small park across the way where some homeless people seem to hang out, but I never felt unsafe walking back & forth to the Metro station at any hour.

Would definitely recommend this hotel, and I would stay here again.

This is a very nice hotel for its price range. Very much what one has come to expect from the Hampton Inn. I am sorry to say however, that I would not return to this location unless the parking situation changes dramatically. My vehicle was damaged to the tune of $2300.00 while under the control of the valet service. The Hilton Corps. insurance has offered to pay for less than half the damages which is more than one would expect considering the disclaimer. Parking options are severely limited so if you must stay, beware.

  • Liked — Very accomodation
  • Disliked — Severely limited parking options. Terrible valet parking service.

reading reviews i was a bit concerned about area, but there is no need, yes there are homless people around but , unfortunately, they are all a round the city. I found the hotel great, room was clean and the bed was fab. Breakfast was great a good choice and set us up for the day. The one thing which was a pain is we had a room on the junction of 2 busy roads, which was really noisy first thing in the morning, and just down the road was a fire station and on our last night there was 6 call outs, so if you take ear plugs you will enjoy.
