We stopped at Kelly's for a quick lunch before we tackled the metro. It is located near Union Station. This is a traditional Irish pub with lots of police department patches all around the bar area. It was established in 1978. We were greeted as soon as we walked in; the place smelled of vinegar. I don't know why. I noticed a large old, broken clock hanging over the bar. I figured this clock was very important so I inquired about it. I was told that the rumor was that the clock stopped at the time President Kennedy died but other than that, it was just a old clock.
Samantha was our server, she was friendly and performed her duties well. She dropped a cup of ketchup and it hit the floor and splattered on my shoe but accidents happen! My husband ordered the chicken sliders and they were ok; he liked the onion straws better. Since we were in an Irish pub, I opted for the Guinness Irish stew. Usually when I order Irish stew it comes in a huge bowl that I can't possibly eat, not the case here. The portion was just right. I really enjoyed the stew; it was thick and flavorful and had mashed potatoes on the bottom. The surprising part was that it was served with sauteed pea pods! I love pea pods and was delighted to see them but I would have never thought to put the two together.
