“Good salads made to order”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

My food review will be limited as I only had salad and so did my sister in law. The lunch line was long and after determining which line to stand in (salad or sandwiches etc), we took our place behind business folk. The queue moved quickly and the server places scoops of pre made specialty salads (tomato-mozzerella, couscous, tabouli or greek) on top of your mixed greens. The serve-yourself style can be overwhelming for a first timer. The food was fresh and appeared of good quality. The side rolls are made in-house. Some items are organic. One scoop of specialty on a bed of greens with tap-water was $10.

“Fresh sandwhiches that are huge!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

Visited the Breadline for a couple of breakfast sandwiches to go this past week. They were very fresh and filled me up for the entire day. The bread was fresh ( although ciabatta is not my favorite). They are a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

“Unique Sandwiches, Soups and Salads”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Located within walking distance of the White House, Breadline is a local lunchtime favorite. They serve a variety of unique and freshly made sandwiches, soups and salads that rotate depending on the day of the week. You can check their website for the daily menu:http://www.breadline.com/

Some of my personal favorites: the spicy peanut soup, served on Tuesdays, the smoked salmon sandwich and the madrange ham & swiss, available almost daily, and the tomato and mozzarella salad, which is served on Fridays.

Price wise this place runs around $10 a person, but you get an ample amount of food. The sandwiches are really good sized-my favorite ham & swiss is served on literally half a baguette! I frequently go, buy a soup and sandwich and can easily make three lunches out of that.

A few tips: this place is crazy popular, so plan to get there before about 11:30 if you want to avoid long lines. They do a good job of wrapping/bagging food, so you can grab food early and save it to eat later with no problem.

Once the place gets crowded, its hard to tell that there are multiple lines going on inside. And to make things worse, they keep futzing with the set up, probably because of how crowded and confusing it can be. Just know to look for the signs for where to go to order a salad, because it is a different line than the soup/sandwich area.

They sometimes sell out of popular items (like my beloved spicy peanut soup). So if there is something you are dead set on, either go early, or call to see if they still have it.

“Lines long at lunchtime”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2011

This block has other attractions-for instance, Roti and a Chopt coming in across the st. The breads look good. This is the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Av close to the White House

“Great Sandwiches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2011

The sandwiches are definitely worth going for. I had the Prochutto, and it was very good. I reccomend buying a loaf of their bread. You could tell how good it was by the lines of people so get there early to miss the lunchtime lines.
