Over the years, I've been to the Chinatown location of Matchbox a few times, and I always have had a delightful meal in a fun atmosphere.
I would say that, overall, the dinner option is way better than the brunch. Even back before Matchbox had various locations around DC, the Chinatown location was the type of affordable yet "different" and hip option that I could take people from out of town and they would have a good time. It's not the most fine dining experience one can have in DC -- or Chinatown itself, for that matter -- but it is reliable and has a relatively huge location, so it's good for groups.
They're known for their pizza and sliders and onion straws, and that's exactly what's good about them. They do what they do very well, and I definitely recommend Matchbox for dinner.
Their brunch was mediocre the last time I had it, with the regular options that any brunch place would have. Definitely nothing special about the brunch.
