We ate at the national zoo on the first visit, and food was terrible, and over priced. Second trip to the zoo we saw this little bar with outside seating just across from the main entrance. It isn't appropriate for children. Funky interior, and the man doing the bar came over to greet us as soon as we entered. Place wasn't busy, and you could tell there were a couple of regulars he called by name. My husband had the sirloin burger done medium with coleslaw and steak fries for $9.95. He said it was exceptionally good, and done just right. I had the BLT on wheat with the slaw and fries for $7.95. The bread size was a disappointment because of the small size, but overall a good value. Bar guy came over, and visited, asking where we were going. We had maps on the table. He helped us download a free app for DC Metro and buses, and then showed us how to use it. We were then able to use city bus to get to Georgetown. We had already conquered the Metro. Very nice friendly, helpful man. Food was a little slow coming, but we were not in a hurry. Very nice experience, and we avoided the dreaded zoo food!
