“Great food but disappointing service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

If I'm going to drop $350 on dinner for two, I expect the restaurant to be operating on all cylinders at a high level of expertise. While the food was definitely very good, the service was a huge disappointment. The staff seemed to disappear for extended periods of time, leaving our table dangling. You should not have to pour your own wine and continually beckon for attention at this price range. I don't know what the problem was. It's not as if the restaurant was that busy -- there were empty tables throughout the evening. The staff seemed to simply forget about us.

As for the food, here is a review of our items:

Parsnip soup with tarragon - Very rich and delicious
Red snapper bisque - Overpowering in a somewhat unpleasant way
Lobster carpaccio - Drizzled with a light, zesty dressing. Very good appetizer
Soft shell crab entree - Well prepared and tasty
Baked antelope - The highlight of the meal for me. Excellent

Wine - Evening Land Pinot Noir from Oregon. Beautiful wine. It's a
shame that the staff didn't see to it that it was served properly.

I'm not sure I could recommend Corduroy, considering how many other options there are at this price range.

“Fun and fantastic food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

We had dinner here last night to celebrate my friend getting her masters degree. It was a great experience all around. The red snapper bisque to start was delicious - creamy but to too heavy with just enough sherry. The soft sell crab as an appetizer was perfectly lightly fried with a sauce that complimented but didn't overwhelm the delicate flavor of the oh so fresh crab. We shared the antelope loin and the special lamb tenderloin both of which were cooked perfectly rare. I had never had antelope and it was fabulous! Mild but very tasty not gamy and lean. The lamb may be he best I have ever had. The sides were ok - cream spinach was too creamy for my taste and the potato gratin was nothing to write home about otherwise I would have rated it 5 stars. The service was impeccable. Our server knew the menu well and made a wine recommendation that will be on my list from now on. We will be back!

“Lovely restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Fine dining with an interesting menu and knowledgeable wait staff. All four of us enjoyed our meals thoroughly. A couple of us had the antelope, which we loved, and I would highly recommend the lobster carpaccio. Great selection of wines from Burgundy. Will return if ever back in DC.

“Fabulous Fare for the Foodie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

All around great experience. The staff was attentive and their love of food came out in their description of the choices on the menu as well as their knowledge of the preparation. For example, when I wanted to substitute a side, the waiter gave a great explanation on why I should stick with the side that came with the dish. The beet salad was artfully displayed with the goatchees spread on the plat in a half moon underneath the beets. The other dishes were just as creatively displayed and all meals were perfectly prepared. There is not a lot of choices on the menu but what is there is inventive and sourced appropriately for the season. The chocolate tart dessert was outstanding - super rich creamy chocolate inside a flaky and flavorful crust. It came with milk chocolate ice cream and a grilled banana which made for a perfect combination of flavors. The staff was always right there but not intrusive. They kept up with our record pace in drinking water and were right there when we needed another pour of wine. They did not dribble either the water or the wine.
The wine list is extensive but not overwhelming and it as great to see a wine list organized in such a logical manner. The organization of the list made it easy to focus on what you wanted. The waiter was amazingly in the know on the wine and had tried a number of the wines on the menu. He directed us toward a reasonably priced super complex burgundy that was like nothing we had ever tried. We are for sure going back.

“Unusual and tasty selections”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

This restaurant, downtown in DC, is worth looking for. It has eclectic selections, with French,
American and Japanese influences. We had the antelope, highly recommended. They also have some great steak selections. There are many good wines to pair with the selections. Our waiter and the service were extremely good. He was knowledgeable and quite amusing. The meal was reasonably priced for such wonderful treats. They also have a prix fixe meal that is a best buy.
