“Lots of charm and good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

This restaurant intends and succeeds at transporting you to a small restaurant in Germany that might have existed between the 2 wars. Fine service, very good food and reasonable prices. The evening we were there they even had a period-dressed guitar player and a zither player. Music was definitely background volume and enjoyable.

“Still Great After All These Years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Back in DC with friends, I remembered the Old Europe, a German restaurant that had been one of my favorites many years ago. I was delighted to try it again and it was as good as ever. The Schnitzel Old Europe was as good as I remembered and the apple red cabbage was just perfect. The Jagerschnitzel vom Kalb nach Art de Hauses was superbly prepared and delicious. The great food, draft German beers, and the atmosphere of the place made it a wonderful evening. And, the wait staff, dress in traditional German dresses, made it near perfect. We were impressed at how many wait staff were there on a Sunday night. The place was packed, but everyone was seated and served quickly. Make a reservation so you don't have to wait for good fund and an enjoyable experience.

“Very good German food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

If you like traditional German food, go. Really, go. Sampler sausage is my favorite. Good schnitzel. Potato pancakes are excellent.

“An Unexpected Treasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We were visiting the National Cathedral and my wife suggested we try to find a German restaurant afterward for lunch. Thanks to the internet we were able to find Old Europe just down the road. What an unexpected surprise for the two of us. A very wonderful restaurant, full of old world ambience and amazingly delicious food. We both had schnitzels - my wife the veal and I the pork. Tender and tasty. The heavy, dark gravy was delicious and the homemade spaetzle was very good. The accompanying Oktoberfest beer rounded out an authentic German lunch!!! Our next visit we will go for dinner.

“Marvelous Restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

This is one of the best restaurants in DC! Great food (specially, sausages and schnitzels). Reasonable prices (specially, weekdays lunch menu), good service, great atmosphere (old european as the name suggests).

I love their schnitzels (veel and pork). I love their chicken schnitzels (ask for it, not on the menu).

Good selection of beers and wines too.

Old Europe has been around for a few decades and I hope it will continue its greatness indefinitely!
