“Outstanding Meal, Hurricane or Not”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

We had just flown in from England and got way-laid on our journey due to Dulles being closed down for Hurricane Sandy was just coming in (and would hit large the following morning, this being Sunday night). We rented a car to escape the city and drive to our final destination, but not before deciding to take a little spin around the downtown area, maybe grab a bite.

Yes, the rain had started, but thats a minor part of the story: we circled the mall, a few monuments, shot some photos in the dark from the car, and decided to find some food for a nice dinner as a "welcome [back] to America" thing.

About a block from the White House, we decided on Bobby Vans Steakhouse. Wow. Nice old-school steakhouse vibe to it. Classy, staid, perfect attentive service, outstanding steaks dones to perfection.

Everything is ala carte, the sides were huge and inviting.

With the right drinks, coffee after, it was a perfect meal with which to fortify ourselves for the long drive ahead of use out of the city, westward and south.

Pricing was expensive, the meal impressive.

“enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Great steak and service and reasonably priced (relative to other higher end steak houses). We took cab, but it's also just around the corner (actually two corners) from the McPherson Metro stop. Also an easy walk to/from the White House.

“Lafayette Square”

Descent place, with attentive service and average food. My lamb, ordered medium, was overcooked. Mostly a business hangout. No culinary surprises for the diner.

“Very Mediocre”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Bad service: Applebees staff at a supposedly high end restaurant.
Bad steak: Worst steak I've had in a while especially for $45. Overcooked and flavorless.
Bad wine: Sent the first glass back and the replacement wasn't much better.

Go to Smith and Wolensky instead.

“Fantastic place for Steak!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Wife and I had the Porterhouse for 2, wow.... beautifully cooked steak, was a massive amount of steak for us anyway and we managed to basically get through it all, the service was great as well, made very welcome and very tentative service, not a huge wine drinker, so I had a beer to go with the steak, but my wife, took ages to choose her wine and she is usually quite quick, so the wine list must be quite good!
