“Very Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

This Courtyard was in a very convenient location; easy walk to Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam wall, White House. It was in a safe neighborhood with a CVS and Dunkin Doughnuts within a block. The rooms were actually a decent size; other reviews said how small they were but we had a family of 4 (kids ages 20 and 22) and had plenty of room. Our first night we had problems with our keys not working; the staff quickly gave us free breakfast for the next morning even though we were in for the night. Most of the staff was helpful; our first night we had to ask twice for more towels. We asked for restaurant recommendations and we were given a list of close places which I think should be given at check in but was very helpful. We would stay at this hotel again.

This is a really nice property in walking distance to the national mall and many attractions. the staff at the front desk, especially Willis, were helpful and friendly.
My only complaint - had to call each morning to have more regular coffee packets brought to the room because they only left 1 each day - not enough. also, the coffee in the room may very well be the weakest coffee I have ever tasted.
so, enjoy, but get coffee elsewhere!

The hotel is convenient to Department of State and George Washington University. Plenty of places to eat within a short walk, a CVS a block away, and Dunkin Donuts for a quick easy breakfast. Staff't really didn't go out of their way ... when I tried to buy a bottle of water from the lobby, the person on the desk said we're out, never offered any apology (it's the middle of summer in DC' .. don't you think guests would want water ?) Along those lines, I was disappointed that I didn't get any water, etc as an arrival gift (as a gold member that is somewhat the norm across the country in other Marriotts). A very good location near the mall. . Bottom line = average.

The Foggy Bottom Courtyard is just okay. Nice clean rooms, but small. AC seemed to run too warm. Excellent location makes up for what you lack in the room. Walking distance to mall, White House and Lincoln Memorial.

I would have to say that Willis,at the front desk, is an asset to the hotel. He has a lot of information to share about DC, getting around, and places to eat.

The hotel is newer and in a good part of town to get to places. The subway station is close by, there is a bike rental stand out front, and you can walk to several restaurants. We ate at Paul several mornings, walked to Tonic for a great breakfast, had a unique dinner at the Founding Farmers, and loved Bertucci's nearby. It seems to be a very safe area.

The only problem with this hotel is that you can hear everything happening in the rooms next to you, We heard our neighbor's conversations like they were in our room, there was a baby crying one night, and we heard every bathroom door open, bathroom door close, showers open and close, and every room door. Lucikily our neighbors went to bed around the same time we did, so this wasn't really a problem. I can only imagine if we had had neighbors who stayed up late or watched television late.

The rooms are small, and it is difficult to fit four people. This is to be expected with such a big city, but we weren't counting on them to be abnormally tight for a marriott brand. For a short getaway one room is usually fine for my family, but when we had the pull-out sofa and rollaway down, the beds literally touched one another. The room was a king with sofa bed for two. I would say that the sofa bed is not fit to count as a bed. The mattress was thin, and the springs popped up. I would only stay two to a room here or get two rooms in the future for the four of us.

The hotel was super clean and new, so we were able to overlook the problems. We had a great time renting bikes and riding into Georgetown, to the White House, and all of the memorials. It only took minutes to get to most places on a bike. We even walked back from Georgetown if you don't mind a mile or two walk.
