“Some good, some not.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Stayed there for two nights, family of 4.
Good quiet location. Outdated, but clean room.
Front desk personal--well, could do a much better job...at times it felt like they were doing us a favor.
Continental breakfast--just don't bother. It was horrible...horrible to the point that even though we had a deal for it for free--we didn't eat anything there!!!
Best part is that hotel provides free transportation.
They have two shuttle routs--one regular, that leaves about every 15-20 minutes and can take you to Union Station. Second one is a small 6 passehger van that leaves the hotel every hour and if you manage to book it a day before, it can even take you to Reagan Airport--free!!! Or anywhere around National Mall...driver is a great guy, don't forget to tip him. He went out of his way to even pick me up from the Mall on the way back.

As this was our first time to DC, I was overwhelmed when searching for a hotel. For a family of 5 (three kids ages 9, 8, and 6), it was very expensive. Luckily, I stumbled across this property and the pictures online looked nice enough. The reviews I found gave the hotel good reviews and the price was perfect. $130/night which included parking and breakfast. I did realize that the hotel was actually on the University's campus. The campus is absolutely beautiful. The hotel was very nice and the rooms were modern and clean. It would have been nice to have a microwave and fridge in the room, but other than that, we were very pleased. We stayed two nights, Saturday and Sunday. We were going to take the metro into DC, but found on Sunday, free curb side parking was abundant and were only steps to all the museums we wished to visit. The hotel was only a ten minute drive to all our destinations.

Located at Gallaudet university so the campus is pretty if you want to walk around. The front desk is super helpful. They have shuttles running every few minutes to the union station which are free so that's good. Rooms are large and comfy. Overall a great experience if you're staying here for a conference. Would not recommend to a tourist

This hotel has amazingly responsive service at the front desk, as well as being a pleasant place to stay. The university grounds are lovely, so walking outdoors was very enjoyable. There is a complementary shuttle which took us to nearby restaurants and would have taken us to the subway or train station. The location in downtown Washington D. C. is terrific. The hotel restaurant was okay for breakfast and quite nice for lunch. Apart from the bar on the second floor and some limited options in the student areas, a traveler needs to go off campus to find dinner. This wasn't a problem but is good to know ahead of time. This is very close to Reagan airport but the cab ride from Dulles is about $75.

The hotel is inside the university in a quiet park.
Staff is helpful and always available to every request.
You have a free frequent shuttle to Union Station and anyway you can walk to Capitol Hill in 20 minutes through a really nice area of the city.

The room was clean, the beds were comfortable. It's a quiet location on the college campus, away from traffic noise. Close to the Capitol hill. Parking is in a garage and was included in a package we purchased, otherwise it would be $18/night. The staff was friendly and helpful. Have free shuttles to the next metro station and back every 20 min.

Stragihtforward unproblematic hotel: pleasant average size room, good wifi, friendly staff, OK breakfast.

Aspects that I think were not mentioned in earlier reviews:

* There is now a bar/cafe for light meals (typical dishes in 2013 $11) that may post-date some of the earlier reviews. The hotel guide also lists phone numbers of local delivery fast food places if that's what you fancy.
* The breakfast has two options - full American ($13, gets you bacon/potatoes/scrambled egg) or Continental (cheaper, but just porridge, muffins, Danish pastries etc.) - not the European idea of cereals, cheese, etc. Minimal bread options - some sliced white and a toaster.
* Quite a few of the staff are deaf, in keeping with the surrounding university. I thought this quite an appealing aspect, as it's an example of people who might have difficulty in some working environments making a real success of it - it's not problematic as there are normally staff with hearing around, though sometimes you may need to point to a menu choice etc.
* The lobby area has two PCs for guest use as well as the coffee etc. mentioned in another review.
* It's tucked away in the campus and not that easy to find - certainly not an easy stroll to anywhere except the leafy university. Not a problem if you have a car and don't mind DC's traffic, of course. Conversely it's quiet and peaceful with zero traffic noise.
* The air conditioning works well.
* European visitors may be surprised to find no bathplugs, though reception can organise one if you don't like showers.

I'd recommend it if you have specific business in DC and just want somewhere pleasant and reasonably-priced. Because of the location it's not ideal as a tourist base.

My background: British business visitor.
