“What a friendly and helpful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I have been to Washington DC over 50 times on business, and have stayed many places. This was my first stay at the Melrose, and I will be staying there from now on (assuming they have room). They were very friendly, punctual, and the room could not have been improved upon. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was absolutely clean as can be. I don't know if this was a 'first time guest' thing, but there was a plate of treally good cheese and crackers in the room with a welcome card.

I am impressed...

We had only one night at the Melrose but we will return. Not only was the room large, clean and very attractive but the staff was super accommodating without being intrusive. We had one breakfast and a very late lunch which was made especially for us. It's about a five to ten minute walk across the bridge into Georgetown but we would recommend a cab to other sites in the downtown area. Parking in these locations can be a nightmare. There is also a metro close by. DEFINATELY a keeper.

We chose this hotel for a weekend break from TripAdvisor ratings and were not disappointed. It is well located for Georgetown and the 'hop on hop off' tour bus to take the sites in you can walk easily into George town, down to the Potomac, the Lincoln memorial and the white house. The rooms were spacious and tranquil and the breakfast sumptuous. I will stay again.

Room Tip: We just took what we were given and it was great. Our room was at the back of the hotel and was very...

We stayed at the Melrose for 5 nights in June and had a fabulous stay. We had a king suite which was huge for the price paid and the location. We had a full size dining table in our lounge/living area and a large (3seater) modern couch that folded out into a very comfortable large sofa bed for our 2 eldest children (6&7). We were provided with a high quality crib with a thick soft mattress for our toddler. The shower is over the bathtub but this didn't personally worry us. The air-conditioning is a little loud but again it didn't worry us. There were 2 TVs -one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. We found the hotel to be tastefully decorated and modern.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful (but not intrusive) and the doormen were particularly helpful and always friendly. Room service menu is very affordable and the one meal we ordered was tasty. Our room was cleaned to a high standard daily and an extra bathrobe was provided promptly when requested. In room wi-fi is free!! There is free coffee and tea available in the lobby in the mornings for guests to take up to their rooms or to have a take away - the coffee was quite good.

The hotel itself is in an excellent location as it is on the edge of the main shopping strip in Georgetown. Whole foods is a 5 minute walk away and Trader Joe's is a 2 min walk away. There is a subway station right by Wholefoods and this is the closest subway station to the hotel. This was great for us as we could buy simple healthy meals in the evening for our family and sit down at the dining table in our room and have an easy family meal with our children who were too tired to eat out after a day of museums and walking. The room has a small bar fridge.

We can also highly recommend Unum restaurant in Georgetown for a truly fabulous and flawless meal. We didn't find any nice breakfast restaurants nearby but Wholefoods was our first stop each morning on our walk to museums for a take away breakfast to enjoy in a nearby park.

Valet parking is expensive at the hotel but there are lots of parking garages nearby with a daily 24hr rate of $20 and we parked for free on the street less than 50 meters from the hotel from Fri night through to 7am on Monday morning (no parking permits required during weekends for on-street parking).

We thoroughly enjoyed Washington DC with our 3 young children as it is very pedestrian and family friendly. We walked to all the museums from the hotel so I can't comment on public transport (about 45minute walk). Museums were great and FREE. Our family particularly enjoyed both Air and Space Museums.

We would definitely stay at the Melrose again as we preferred the intimate 'boutique' atmosphere of the hotel to the large commercial chain hotels and loved that we had a suite for the same price as a double queen room in other hotels nearby. We thought our room was outstanding value for money and we picked up our rate on the hotel website directly!

Room Tip: Definitely recommend paying the little extra for a King corner suite room, particularly, if you are...

I had such an amazing time at the WPC event and this hotel and your front desk, bell, and door staff were fantastic. They helped me with any questions I had and were SO fast opening that door and getting me a cab. :)

Jesse, especially, was extremely nice and looked up distances and locations on her phone to help me out.

Thanks everyone!

Room Tip: Book early and often. :)

We looked at a lot of hotels before booking The Melrose and we were very happy that we ended up choosing it. The location was great - easy to walk Georgetown or to Adams Morgan but not too far to walk down to the Mall for the day. The hotel itself was very nice - modern furnishings throughout and friendly staff. We had a one bedroom suite which was very large and we all (myself, husband and 10 year old daughter) enjoyed the amount of room we had. The room was quiet as well, with just a small amount of street noise as we faced the front of the hotel. On the very last morning, as we were scouring the room to make sure we didn't leave anything behind, my husband moved the footstool away from the chair in the living room area (which we had not done for our entire 3 night stay). We were surprised that a headband and a lip gloss fell to the floor from between the 2 pieces of furniture and it wasn't mine or my daughter's, indicating that none of the housecleaning staff had moved the furniture to vacuum before or during our stay, which was a little disappointing. However, we would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it.

I have to say that I did a lot of research using the TA website for our 3 night visit to DC. We decided on the Melrose and were not disappointed. It is a great location for visiting all the sights with plenty of restaurants either in Georgetown or other locations. We walked miles! We reserved the Vacation package and had a great suite which was very comfortable, clean and up to date in all respects. I have to say that all the staff were so helpful and kind. There were a couple of minor problems but they were dealt with quickly by the front desk offering champagne and full breakfast. A terrific stay and for sure we will return next time in Washington. Full marks to all concerned at the Melrose!
