“One of the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

I stay at the Monaco about twice a year when traveling for business. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. The rooms are small but very comfortable. Morning coffee service and afternoon cocktail hour are welcome amenities. The exercise room is small but open 24 hrs/day. The location is near the metro so there is easy to access to the hotel from National Airport.
During my latest visit I arrived late Sunday evening and ordered a sandwich from room service. Unfortunately, the sandwich sat too long and the roll was soggy and the fries were lukewarm, disappointing and expensive.
I highly recommend Monaco for the business traveler.

The service at Hotel Monaco was exceptional and the amenities lovely. The decor is quirky and fun and much more interesting than most. They have a large and lively courtyard restaurant with good food and drinks (though it's pricey).
It's close to the convention center and across the street from the national gallery.
When I mentioned I liked the NY Times the desk had one at my door in the morning.
As we were leaving they had fresh baked cookies on the front desk counter.

Stayed on Friday/Saturday evening w/spouse and our children aged 15 and 10. Booked a Mediterranean Suite which was a lovely accommodation, with separate bedroom for us, queen pull-out sofa bed, and the addition of a rollaway bed. The latter was a little squeaky but that's to be expected. Room was spacious, clean, no disturbance from city noises even though it overlooked 7th street. Bathroom was sparkling. Hotel is in a fabulous location, left the car in the garage and walked everywhere with great choices for restaurants in Penn Quarter. The only glitch was that the button operating the whirlpool tub was busted...not something we wanted to fuss with late at night with a wet and tired 10 year old so we didn't call housekeeping about it and made do without the whirlpool. Kids loved their visiting goldfish, and we felt the staff was quite friendly and accommodating to families. We missed cocktail hour but that's okay as it looked a bit loud and chaotic, not our speed. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

The location is very central. We walked past the White House, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial and the Smithsonian in a couple hours. The Metro stop is on the corner and takes you straight to Reagan Airport. The staff was friendly and we loved the Wine Hour. The room was large and well decorated. Reasonably priced and we would definitely visit again.

The hotel is situated a couple of blocks away from White House and is center to everything. Very close to metro. It is tastefully decorated, without overdoing it. The front office staff is very helpful and seems quite engaged & happy with their work. there is free coffee and tea downstairs, as well as lemon scented fresh cool water.

Room Tip: Basement rooms have almost no natural light, so avoid them.

I thought that Hotel Monaco was supposed to be one of Kimpton's higher end brands. I was shocked at how small my room was - it would have been unworkable for two people. As it was, the room had only a small desk and I couldn't work at the desk without hitting the curtains from the windows. The bathroom is adequate but not what you would expect to find in a high end hotel. I was also very surprised to find that I was staying in a basement room below street level with very little natural light. These issues aside, the bed was comfortable and the location is excellent. Also, to be fair, the room was somewhat less expensive than the hotels where I usually stay.

Room Tip: Avoid basement rooms and smaller room categories.

Thanks for your comments AvidTraveler941, we do have many rooms that are available that are larger, I encourage you to check out a Monte Carlo guestroom on your next visit, the best "size" value in the hotel. Alternatively, if you're used to a little more, our Robert Mills Suites are not to be missed.
