“Very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

Stayed at the Hotel Monaco during the July 4th holiday. The hotel is very convenient to most of the points of interest in Washington. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative is that our room was quite small.

Hi R_Galyean821 what a great time for some "fireworks" for two. Make sure you look into our Monte Carlo guestrooms next trip - they'll allow you a extra little personal space (but still remain cozy!)
Hope to see you back soon.
Cheers

We booked Monaco online in advance of our stay but only 2 days ahead - on Hotels.com We felt as if we were the best customers of the hotel! Our short stay was upgraded by room size at check in, easily and warmly welcomed by the valet attendants, maps, directions, and restaurant suggestions easily made by the front desk - all in a wonderful environment. Our room was quiet, cool and clean (an inside room on 200 level). So much to do in DC so we asked to keep our luggage at the hotel for the day - and didn't return until 7:30pm without concern. Their hospitality goes beyond most hotels (and we have frequented many!) and seems to be led by a fabulous front desk manager, Debbie. She was amazing from check in through check out. No questions faze her and she's determined to be sure your stay is as comfortable as possible!! Her experience shows. But, ALL the staff were attentive, helpful and earnest to assist. There is nothing I can identify to correct/change with our stay except for the smallest detail that the bathroom fan may need adjustment as there didn't seem to be good exhaust for the steam when showering. A minor detail. This stay suggests to us that we'd absolutely look for future stays with Kimpton hotels. Thank you Debbie (and staff) for making this a fabulous getaway weekend over the 4th for us!

Room Tip: We thought our room (250) was great and offered all amenities. (quiet/no view)

Dear Travelin1Pa -
Wow! We couldn't agree more - Debbie is top notch and we're thrilled to have her on the team - though we appreciate your recognition of the whole crew! No higher praise can be had than the idea that we've instilled a little "Kimpton love" that will encourage you to seek out our sister hotels - an idea I highly recommend! In the mean time, come back and see us again soon!
Cheers,

Having lived in DC for 5 years before moving to NYC a few years ago, it is still weird for me to stay in a hotel when visiting. This time, I came for a romantic weekend getaway and we decided to stay in Chinatown since all of the metro lines were conveniently located to everywhere we wanted to go during our stay. This boutique hotel did not disappoint. Before we even arrived, Kali reached out to me to see if there was anything special they could do to make this weekend getaway even more romantic. She generously upgraded us to one of the suites and provided us with a sweet welcome card upon check-in to the room along with a bottle of champagne and cupcakes since our train came in after wine hour! What an awesome surprise! The hotel was so unique and different than most other hotels and built off the DC/Political charm of the area. The restaurant in the hotel had great food although we only grabbed an afternoon bite. We ended up going to Old Town in Alexandria for the day and by the time we realized we were going to miss wine hour again during our second night, we happened to walk right in front of the Hotel Monaco in Old Town. We asked the front desk person if it was okay to go to wine hour there instead and after verifying our stay at the one in DC, she happily welcomed us! Another great surprise! The only drawback for me personally is that it is a dog friendly hotel, which I am allergic to and also not the biggest fan of the dog fights/barking in the lobby, but I can deal with it because the hotel is so nice! Will definitely be choosing Kimpton hotels for my future stays nationwide.

Best hotel by far in the Gallery Place area. Friendly staff. Kimpton amenities. Building was once a Post Office so avoid rooms in the basement. Afternoon hosted happy hour is a nice touch. Excellent restaurant and room service menu.

Hello and thank you vanwinkle7562, we couldn't agree more - while our Penn Quarter neighborhood is amazing - it's our staff and amenities that make things special. Hope you come back again very soon!

Not told at reservation time, this was the old U.S. Post Office, & rooms have "Curtains" to hide office cubicles, huge head boards to cover (not really) doorways. The toilet was literally 5 feet from my bed. Couldn't move the bed the room was so tiny. And, banquets were held on this floor, w/drunks throwing up in the hallway, caterers wheeling dishes & glasses along the hall, past my room till 3:30 am

Dear 60982Aloha -
I'm sad that this is how you saw us - our renovated Post Office isn't for everyone for sure, but I think most folks enjoy it. We'd love to have another chance if you're in town please reach out to me.

Great location right in the middle of everything but yet so quiet and comfortable. My family of 4 (2 adults & 2 kids) stayed in a Mediterranean suite and can't say enough good things about it. Kingsize bed was very comfortable, sheets were silky smooth, plenty of towels were provided, queen size sofa sleeper (with memory foam) in the living room was great for the kids. Both rooms were spacious with flat screen TV's in both rooms. Room was clean although grout in shower looked like it needed some bleach or touch up and a/c vent above shower full of dust bunnies. A/C worked well and was easy to get a comfortable temperature (in some hotels it is hard either too hot or cold). I have never stayed in a hotel that was so quiet, didn't hear neighbors or street noise (probably a function of really thick walls in such an old building) or maybe a quiet time in the hotel (we were there June 9th - 13th). Staff were pleasant, attentive and accommodating. Nice to have the free lobby coffee/tea service in the morning and happy hour in the evening. No coffee maker in the room (although will be provided if requested). The only thing I wished they offered was a tea kettle to boil water for tea (for the tea drinkers). Staff offered me a coffee maker but was not a good option as hot water comes out tasting like coffee. However, staff were kind enough to get me a flask of hot water and send it to the room (at no charge).Plenty of family friendly restaurants within easy walking distance and a CVS within 3 minutes walking distance for those must have supplies (bottled water etc). Very happy with our stay and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed on 4th floor (8th street side)

The hotel is charming and comfortable. Rooms are quiet and attractive; the bed was comfortable. The TV in my room had wretched reception but since I don't watch much TV, it wasn't a problem. If you have business nearby, it's a very nice place to stay.
