We went for our anniversary and were upgraded to a suite. Very nice rooms with high unique cielings. Temperature control between the rooms was off with one being warm and the other much cooler, but no big deal.
Checkin and service were great, free wine hour was also great.

Good afternoon 2Gunnys,

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay here at the Monaco and Happy Anniversary!
We were so happy to have upgraded you to one of our suites; a special night deserves a special room. I’m sorry that you had some temperature issues; hopefully you had the chance to let us know about it. Glad to hear that check was a breeze and that you enjoyed our complimentary evening Wine Hour, it is a fun time. Wishing you many many more Happy Years together,

We can’t wait to have you back again the next time you are looking for a “staycation” in our
Nation’s Capital!

Safe travels,

JL

We stayed here for a few nights over Christmas 2011. The hotel is gorgeous and has lots of character. The staff was very welcoming of our dog, providing bowls for food and water and a very nice dog bed. The room had everything you want and had that great Klimpton Hotel style. I always like their animal print robes. The location is fantastic for exploring Washington D.C.

Good morning Linnsey26,

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay here at the Monaco; has it really been almost a year? I guess it must be time to come visit us again. I am glad that your dog, who we really consider family, had a great time too, it’s important to make them feel right at home as well.

We agree about the location, it really makes sightseeing that much better since everything is either in walking distance or an easy taxi / metro ride away.

Those animal print robes are fun; I have been known to wear them around the hotel just for fun.

We can’t wait to have you back again hopefully sooner than later, the next time you are in town visiting our Nation’s Capital!

Safe travels,

JL

The Monaco Hotel was a friendly and very welcoming hotel to stop in, Idealy situated for touring Washington. The highlight everyday at 17:00 is the free beer and wine in the lobby. Breakfast was very good, we were give vouchers for everyday which you could use as part payment towards your meal

Good afternoon ChunkySelby,

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay here at the Monaco; it sounds like you had a good 4 night stay with us.

I see you took advantage of our evening Wine Hour each night in the living room; it’s a Kimpton way of making sure you have a nice end to your day of sightseeing or work. I hope you had the opportunity to have tried Poste in the evening since you had good meals in the morning.

We look forward to seeing you again the next time you are visiting our Nation’s Capital!

I just booked my third stay at the Monaco in the last six months. The location can't be beat, the hotel has character throughout. I NEVER order room service, but I did during my last stay...twice...and both meals were great! But, best of all, I've never experienced the level of service from all the staff that I have here. They go above and beyond to ensure every stay meets expectations. They're friendly, helpful, responsive, and sincere. They make you feel special...what a tremendous feeling. This is by far the BEST place to stay in DC.

Good morning Peter H,

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay here at the Monaco; and wow three times in six months thank you for your loyalty. Glad you finally gave room service a shot and we were able to continue the service you are becoming accustomed to. It is so awesome to hear that the staff and service you experienced the first time has not changed this time around and like you said location is unbeatable.

We can’t wait to have you back again for the 4th time the next time you are in town visiting our

The Monaco is in a beautiful old building which used to be a Post Office so it has long wide corridors which give a great sense of space. The room was very spacious and the bed so comfortable. But it is the wonderful staff who make the place. Every staff member was friendly and helpful, always smiling and saying hello. The concierge gave us great tips for restaurants which were all spot on, and directions for good shops in Georgetown. The quality of the staff combined with the happy hour in the "living room" and the fresh cookies each afternoon really transform the Monaco from a nice hotel to a wonderful hotel. The happy hour means that guests spend time enjoying the hotel instead of just passing through on the way to their room. The hotel is also in a perfect location - easy walk to the Washington Convention Centre or the Mall with all the museums, across the road from the National Portrait Gallery, beside the Spy Museum, along the road from the Ford Theatre and surrounded by incredible restaurants. You certainly won't need a taxi but if you want to take a train the station is across the road. This is a perfect hotel if you like small-medium hotels that are not boring. Thanks to all the staff for making our Washington stay so enjoyable. Stay here.

Good afternoon tui52,

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay here at the Monaco; it sure looks like you had a great experience and time with us. You have really put to words what we try and accomplish every day.

It’s our amazing and talented associates who make it happen, and I think that you saw that they really do enjoy what they do. The idea of the little extras throughout the day is simply to make it a fun experience while in the hotel; we already know that we are in the best location in DC for outside the hotel activities.

We look forward to seeing you again the next time you are visiting our Nation’s Capital!

Safe travels,

We couldn’t have asked for a better stay at Monaco DC the night before the Army 10-miler! First, the staff was very friendly and helpful both at the front desk, wine social and restaurant. The front desk was very conscious of the noise that the evenings’ wedding was going to produce up until 11pm. This usually wouldn’t be a problem for us but we were getting up Sunday at 4am for the Army 10-miler. So, he moved us down one level. The wine social was very nice as we always experience at Kimpton hotels. (only 1 of us was running! The other volunteered… ). Second, the restaurant was packed but the outside patio was a great option. A little background music and some heat lamps to nip the fall chill would be nice in this expansive open area. The food was excellent, although somewhat small portions. The server was very attentive and took care of us. We were a little surprised that the woman who greeted us at the front wasn’t sure if the patio was serving a full menu. The hotel itself is well appointed and decorated in luxurious fabrics with wide hallways and tall ceilings. The building has a rich history in DC as being the first building to be constructed with all marble. The room echoes the public areas with stunning architecture details, tall ceilings and elegant fabrics and a comfortable bed. The bath and shower were very clean and comfortable. Finally, I especially like the new app to be able to control the TV form my iPhone. The location is fantastic being next to the Gallery Place / Chinatown metro with a ton of attractions nearby. Thanks Kimpton, once again, for giving us a five star experience.

Room Tip: A room facing North has great views!

Good afternoon MariusInMD

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay here at the Monaco, it seems like you are a loyal Kimpton fan and we truly appreciate that. Judging by your comments, we did exactly what we do best and that is to make sure your stay is flawless. You are correct about our location, as we like to say, we are smack dab in the middle of it all!

Not only was this the first building in marble, it was also the original home of the US Postal Service dating back to the early 1800’s. Hope you had a good time in your 10-miler.

We look forwarding seeing you again the next time you are in our Nation’s Capital!

This hotel was converted from a historic post office building. From the outside, it looks like many of the other historic federal buildings...you feel like you are walking into the Smithsonian instead of a hotel. The interior is also unique for a hotel, with extremely wide hallways and incredibly high ceilings. There are many historic aspects left intact, such as a huge spiral staircase, and other interesting details. The "feel" is definitely different, which is what boutique hotels are about.

Positives:

Great location a very short walk to China Town, Verizon Center, Gallery Place/China Town Metro station, movie theater, and numerous restaurants and bars. It's also very close to the National Portrait Gallery. If you want to be in the China Town area, this is one of the best choices.

Unique look and feel, including soaring high ceilings in the guest rooms and hallways.

Friendly, helpful staff.

Negatives:

Maybe because of the nature of the buildings interior, with high ceilings and vast expanses of space, it seemed like sound traveled. This was more evident when in the hallways than in one's room, but there was a lot of noise from staff pushing carts, moving around furniture (some minor interior construction was occurring on the 4th floor), picking up carts, and so on. Sound seemed amplified.

The wide, long halls, high ceilings, and somewhat dim lighting made for an almost Gothic experience when walking around this hotel. It was a little creepy at times in those empty hallways... I wasn't sure if I felt that the uniqueness factor outweighed the haunted old building factor...

While the room was nice, the bed was nothing special. It was adequate but nowhere near the comfort of the upgraded Marriott beds.

To enter the hotel, you must walk up stairs. This is a bit inconvenient with luggage.

I was fortunate not to have stayed in the sub-ground floor (Floor 1), but having walked down there to look around, I would definitely think that it's a less than optimal situation. It seemed sort of musty down there, and who wants a hotel room where the windows are at or below street level? Too much like a basement for me. Avoid Floor 1 unless you get a great deal. Floor 2 is actually street level.

Overall, I would probably stay here again if looking for a place close to China Town. It's not perfect by any means, but it's definitely different (mostly in good ways).

Good afternoon ATLDawg,

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay here at the Monaco; we appreciate the detailed positive and negative bullets. Being the historic building we are there are certain elements that cannot be changed such as the entrance stairs. I am not sure if had noticed that we are in the middle of upgrading the 1st floor corridors, as well as half of the guest rooms, from ceiling tiles, lighting, and furniture we think it is a step in the right direction.

You are correct when it comes to the location, it’s hard to beat us, we are right in the middle of everything DC has to offer, with the convenience of the Metro or a cab right out front. I hope you had the opportunity to have joined us for our complimentary Wine Hour in the living room, great place to meet fellow travels and exchange sightseeing tips.

We look forwarding seeing you again the next time you are in our Nation’s Capital!

Safe Travels,

JL
