“A very nice bargain in Georgetown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

My partner and I had planned a weekend trip to Washington to see "Follies" at the Kennedy Center and booked Friday and Saturday nights at a nearby Marriott. At the last minute, we decided to extend our visit by one night and found a room at the Georgetown Suites for $125 for Sunday. We were quite pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accommodations and the excellent location (although it is somewhat distant from the Metro). The room was spacious and bright and had a very comfortable king bed. A bonus was the full kitchen, which we used only for the coffee maker. A decent breakfast served downstairs off the lobby was included in the cost of the room. The only negative was the erratic performance of the elevators; a couple of times we got on them and went in the opposite direction of where we intended to go. The elevators definitely seemed to have a mind of their own. All in all, however, I would recommend Georgetown Suites as a very attractive and affordable alternative to better known and pricier hotels in D.C.

Room Tip: I found the $125 rate on Travelocity.

"No free wi-fi." Disappointing, but low expectations. "Free wi-fi!!!" Woo hoo!! Right? Not exactly. I would rather pay $20 per day than wrestle with USELESS (that's right - worse than NO wi-fi) Internet. After several weeks of fighting with slow (think 1992 dial-up) Internet at Georgetown Suites, I called the toll-free support number. They appologized and made it VERY clear that the problem was the Internet bandwidth selected by Georgetown Suites. They offered to "kick-off" other people from the Internet to improve my speed. I guess that explains why I loose connection and have to re-authenticate on a completely arbitrary schedule. Others are calling to complain about the speed and I'm getting kicked off. Amazing!

The really sad thing is that there is no recourse. You can't pay per day to get functional Internet. You're stuck with non-functional free (ha ha!!) Internet that is COMPLETELY USELESS.

My only other complaints are slow elevators (think slow like the Internet) and some maintenance problems that took close to a week to fix. Of course, we're less than a block from M street. Great location.

Come here for the location. Assume you won't have ANY Internet access. If that's OK, you'll be fine. Good luck!

Thank you for your comments. Due to the the high demand on our existing wireless service and in response to guest comments, we have increased wireless internet speed to 100mbs. This increase was actually just completed last week and is available immediately at our 30th Street location. We anticipate the faster speed at our Harbour location by the end of July.

the staff is friendly, gave me very early check-in (I think it was even a bigger suite than I ordered), large 2-bdrm suite was more like an apartment with separate kitchen, 2 bathrooms, living/dining room. bathrooms and kitchen a little dated but generally clean. living room seemed newer. Only 2 negatives: terrible wifi - you can barely check your email and certainly can't watch a ballgame as I would have liked to. This is the main reason I lowered my rating to 3. And the bellman tried to sucker me into an expensive car service (from which he obviously gets something off the top) instead of a cab as I requested - didn't affect my rating but be warned. Excellent continental breakfast for free.

Wished we were there for more than one night... The room was great, the bed super comfy, the suite included a full size stove and refrigerator. The hotel was tucked in between buildings so it was quiet even though it was just a short walk from the bustling, busy and fun section of 'Washington, Georgetown!
Slow internet was the only complaint

This review relates to the 30th Street location. We booked early on-line, but were a bit dissapointed to find that friends staying at the same time got a better suite more cheaply. Still we were mostly happy with our suite. The bed was large and comfortable, the seating comfortable with a table and chairs and the bathroom clean, but a bit dated. A drinking water filter system was not working and in fact had been disconnected.

We had problems with a flickering bathroom light, blocked sink and broken microwave on arrival, but to be fair reception sent someone within half an hour of our request and all of the problems were fixed within an hour by friendly and polite maintenance staff, so top marks for great service here, but the room should have been checked properly before the start of our 7 nights stay.

The kitchennette fridge/freezer and cooker were a bit dated, but worked fine - if it ain't broke don't fix it - and greener not to do so as well. The internet Wi-Fi was OK for Internet surfing and email.

The breakfast eating area was rather small and if the hotel is full, you might have to wait for a table, which happened to us one morning. However, there was a good selection of tasty food - pastries, croissants, muffins, cereals, fruit and fruit salad, bagels, toast, coffee - as much as you can eat, which was bonus.

The location was lovely. Much of DC is plagued by aircraft noise, but was not too bad here, although there was some noise from late-night revellers in the hotel courtyard. Georgetown is a great district, with upmarket shops and great restaurants, although shopping for food is a bit difficult without a car - Safeways is a bit of a trek uphill, but there are small shops rather nearer, but with very limited selections of food to cook/re-heat.

The reception staff were friendly, but rather uninformed, especially about local public transport. (for instance they did not know that you can get to Mount Vernon -Washington's home - from DC by metro and then bus). Perhaps this is the perennial US problem that is always solved by the answer "you get in your car and ......". In fact a car is s bit of a disadvantage in DC.

The nearest metro station was a bit of a walk, but the Circulator Bus stops nearby, is frequent and cheap ($1 flat fare) and was good for downtown Washington DC, but rather crowded and slow in the rush hours.

On DC in general, it was great that the public museums are free (no wonder the States gripe about fereral taxes) and you can walk your feet off if you want to do all of the sights.

We would certainly consider staying here again if we visit DC in future, although we would book early and try to negotiate a lower price.

I was a bit hesitant after reading some poor reviews and even thought of changing our reservations, but was happy we did not! The hotel is in a very safe area of Georgetown, less than a block to the circulator and metro bus, and about 7 blocks from the Metro rail system. Our room was very clean, with a king bed (nice linens), table set for 2 and a full kitchen. The staff was extrememly helpful (shout out to Jeffery, the night concierge/staff/desk attendant-he was particularly helpful and cheerful!) especially for a couple who had never visited DC before and needed lots of directions and help. The breakfast was particularly nice, lots of fresh fruit, granola, along with pastries, cereal, and toast. We are already planning our next trip there and will difinately stay there again!

This property is in a fabulous location, being on the bus route and within walking distance of the monuments. There are numerous eaterys in the area with great shopping etc. You don't have to drive anywhere as they have ample parking in their parkade. Grind them on the $20.00 per day parking fee as we got ours for $10.00. The hotel staff were excellent and very accommodating. The breakfast area is small if the hotel is close to full but has ample assortment of items. The only down side would be the hotel is showing it's age and is in need of a facelift. The kitchen was very dated and very skimmpy on the utensils. Our room was on the sixth floor and overlooked the courtyard. We had no complaints on this and the windows opened as well. We also found the hotel very quiet.
