“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Although the hotel seemed relatively cheap (for Washington) it is still a lot of money and classed as a 3* hotel. I was very disappointed when I arrived by the overall state of the hotel and the room, it seemed more like a cheap B&B than a hotel. There was a fake wooden floor in the room which seemed quite sticky and the floors in the whole building were creaky and uneven. My floor was on the first floor and there was very noisy music from the bar downstairs until very late into the night. To be fair to the place - the staff were all friendly and pleasant.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor further away from the bar.

The staff was friendly with the exception of the person at the front desk when we checked in. The location was excellent being close to Dupont Circle. The room was very small with barely enough room to walk around the twin beds. Bathroom was small and no shelves or anywhere to put makeup, etc. The only mirror was in the bathroom which made it impossible for two women to get ready at the same time. A mirror in the room would allow two women to put on makeup at the same time. No closet and no where to set luggage. The beds were uncomfortable, and the window unit a/c was not sufficient. Next time I will pay a higher rate to have a more comfortable room. I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you stay there be sure to request a large room with 2 queen beds.

This was our second stay in the Baron Hotel and will come back again.
The room was redone recently . Not a lot of frills, but plenty of room and clean.
The WiFi in the room was non-existent .
Good place to stay with a lot of good restraints and the Metro (DuPont Circle) close.
Nice and helpful employees.

The hotel has great location and rooms are clean ...That's it! So, if you are looking for affordability and you are going to spend in the room as little time as possible, you should go for it. We stayed four nights and we payed for two rooms the same that we should have paid for one room anywhere else in the same area.

We arrived late at night at our hotel on Mass Ave on a Sunday evening.

Still hungry we asked the desk where we might find someplace still open.

She recommended Kramer's which is a bookstore but also serves a complete dinner menu in addition to Kraft beer, a bar, and an extensive desert menu.

The dinner menu ranged from low country shrimp and rice grits to tenderloin.

My son had rockfish and I had shrimp and grits.

He finished off w bread puddle my and cinnamon ice cream.

Excellent food, good service, good beer, and when we finished we browsed the books.

Serves until 1am. I recommend it for casual and relaxed dining.

I'm a high school teacher. I was traveling with seven high school kids. They absolutely loved the Baron...in fact the rest of the week was on Close Up program at the Key Bridge Marriott. And I think they liked the Baron better. I sure did - for the following. #1 Location...come on you are two blocks off of Dupont Circle; easy carry of your luggage from the Metro, you can come and go all night long, plenty of morning bagel and coffee shops just a stroll away #2 - The staff was wonderful. Pleasant, laid back, and personable. A very chill place. #3 - Cleanliness and comfort. Don't expect a lot of extras in the rooms - but the beds are comfy. There's plenty of light and its clean. #4 - Did I mention location. Here's the thing; I don't think the Baron is for everybody. It's got two bars downstairs and four floors of rooms. They run cabaret shows and open mic comedy and such on the weekends. It's got an edgy first impression; and if you are used to The Marriott you might not get past that first impression. But, but, but - the bars are great. Good food. And if you get a room way up high - we were on the fourth floor, you don't even know what's going on below. So, I recommend the Baron - we'll be back next year.

Room Tip: Try a room up high, in case the bars are really busy.

The front desk staff was unfriendly. The room we stayed in was super small. No shelves in the bathroom for storage. No iron. Very low water pressure. The mattress was felt like we were sleeping on a box spring and it was pitted. And worst of all....the entire seconds floor hears the LOUD bar music every night until very late. Continental breakfast is not free. Advertised soundproof rooms ha ha ha ha. What a joke!!!
