“Fantastic Stay - Recommended for families!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

This is a great little hotel and we are so glad that we spent a week here. It is clean and the staff are friendly and attentive. The breakfast is pretty good considering it is complimentary (eggs and meat, choice of cereal and yogurt, whole fruit, toast, pastries, waffles and juice and coffee). We only had the dinner twice since I have health issues and have to be careful what I eat. Tonight we had roast chicken, beans, salad and wild rice. it was tasty, free and convenient. There is a laundry room which is open 24 hours (thank goodness) and certainly came in handy. The suite is spacious and we enjoyed our comfortable bed. A word on location - two blocks from a wholefoods supermarket (comes in handy when you want a healthy hot meal and fruit etc) and about three blocks to the metro. The best way to see this city is to use the Metro and to use the big bus companies that you can hop on and off (for how many days you pay to use this service for - would recommend for a city tour don't use for Smithsonian as you can use the Metro which is much cheaper). The suite is not close to the attractions (you can't really walk to any of them except the White House) but this city is so huge that the attractions are spread out all over the place anyway - which is why I recommend the bus companies and the Metro. Overall a GREAT stay. We have two young children and staying here just made our lives EASY.

Thanks so much for pointing out all of our family-friendly features in your wonderful review! Convenience can make or break a vacation, especially when you're traveling with family. In addition to making things easy, our complimentary meals make for an excellent value.

I love when our guests pass along their tips for getting around in the city, so thanks for passing along yours. Some of our guests do walk to the Mall area and Smithsonian museums, but others find it a bit long, especially with children. As you pointed out, there are many options, so there's a way around for everyone.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback!

stayed here again this past August, they have actually gotten better, the staff are amazing, the rooms large, w/ a kitchen area, 2 large screen tv's, an adequate breakfast, and even dinner options during the week, plus wine or beer! how can anyone complain, location close to everything, including Whole Foods on nearby P st. front desk were terrific in helping some of my visitors whose luggage was lost for 2 days...

Room Tip: I've never had a bad room here, though I prefer the back, rooms on Mass. Ave can get noisy if th...

Rooms are clean and the staff is excellent. I would stay no place else when I am in Washington D.C. The breakfast is great and the evening dinner staff is exceptional. It is next best place to home!!!

Now to try and keep this short because there are so many wonderful things to say... DC is an expensive city to eat and sleep at. I would love to keep Homewood Suites my little secret but they deserve the compliments. We stayed for one week at this hotel with reservations originally at a Residence. I like the location next to Embassy Row and DuPont Circle much better. It is a VERY safe neighborhood and very clean. Great nighttime walking or as an alternative their is a bikeshare rack outfront to grab a bike if you would prefer. Across the street was a CVS pharmacy for all your miscellaneous needs including groceries if you did not want to pay the prices for the Whole Foods a couple blocks in the other direction. It is 4 blocks from the metro and within walking distance of the White House and other monuments. We did not use a taxi for anything other than getting to and from the airport. Free buffet breakfast every morning (the weekends are busier than during the week). It is busy but they open another room for seating if it becomes necessary. I truly disagree with the reviewer below who indicated it was disgusting!! They staff VERY well and ANYTHING you need they attend to immediately if you say something. If you finish before the rest of your party, they will even act as a waitress which really is above their duty. A FREE hotel breakfast is self served. Monday thru Thursday they also offer a free buffet dinner with a mini salad bar and happy hour with a choice of two beers. We were pleasantly surprised that the dinner was so tasty. Lasagna, chicken stir fry and pulled bbq pork sandwiches were our dinners along with a crisp, fresh salad and sides. The general manager even takes a moment to come out every night and visit with the guests. She is absolutely friendly and sincere. Checking in to the hotel, we were greeted by the most wonderful lady who reminded us of 'grandma'. She immediately made us feel like we had entered her home and gave us the run down of the area, answering all of our questions before we had a chance to ask them (she may have done this a time or two). The hotel provides a complimentary grocery shopping service if you would like to have your fridge stocked while you enjoy your stay. The room was always cleaned well with nothing we had situated to our liking changed although we were not fully replenished wash clothes for a couple days (we had 3 instead of 5 so no big deal and I chose not to call for more). We also wanted to catch a baseball game and used their complimentary computer room and printer to get tickets off of Stubhub and got some great tips from the two gentleman at the front desk on how to get there, where to eat and where to sit. The rooms were not new but they also didn't have the aged, dirty look most places start to get such as collected dirt compacted in the corners of the bathroom. The bedrooms are separated from the living area and have flat screen panel tv's. I searched all week for the one thing I could say not in favor of the hotel since no place is completely perfect and found my complaint to be the lack of place to unpack if you have more than two people. There is a small 3-drawer dresser and the closet has some small cubbies with about 6 hangers. My son was content to live out of his suitcase so we did make it work.

How nice to hear from you, and thanks so much for deciding to leak your secret to our future guests!! I do remember speaking with you at dinner when you were here--as I recall you were happy to learn that Hilton had an all-suite option, and that's why you chose Homewood Suites. You did a marvelous job of capturing the many wonderful things about the hotel, so I really don't need to elaborate. Thank you so much for your very kind review.

I sincerely hope we have a chance to see you at Homewood Suites when you next visit Washington, DC!

This hotel is close to the mall and museums and a great price. It was cheaper and easier to take a taxi to the mall area ($6) than to walk 3 blocks to the metro. We had a one bedroom suite with 2 double beds and a pull out. Our 17 yo and 20 yo sons slept in the living room area. They put the mattress on the floor. The breakfast was included with the hotel, while it was a money saver it was nothing special. Mon-Thur they provide wine & beer with a food buffet in the evenings. The staff in the dining area and the front desk were very helpful and friendly. GREAT VACATION! Thank you, Homewood Suites for a terrific week! Best food goes to Old Ebbits Grill!!! Great happy hour food specials on shrimp and oysters. Everyone should do the double deck bus tour. Great views.

Hello and thanks for your review! I'm delighted that you and your family enjoyed your time here. And thanks for the tip to others about taking a taxi to the Mall area. Our location is very central which allows for a number of transportation options to various points in the city. The Metro, buses and taxis are easily accessible, and many attractions can also be reached by foot.

Thanks, too, for your nice comments about the staff...we take vacations very seriously!

We booked this hotel for it's great value. I was surprise for it's cleanliness and best of all, it's very close to most DC attractions. Staying there, we walked to the White House, Lincoln, Washington and Matin Luther King's Monuments. To top it all we had free breakfast.

Thanks so much for your review--I'm glad you enjoyed your time with us! It sounds like your family got around really well on foot. Washington, DC is very much a walking city, and our location is a great starting point. We're also a short walk to Metro, which will take you to all areas of the city. And...it's easy to get an early start since our breakfast is included--there's no hassle or expense with finding a place to eat along the way. An exceptional value for sure. :)

Thanks again for your comments!
