“Best General Manager Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Our trip with two young grandchildren was so memorable because of the personal attention extended by the General Manager. In the morning, at the complimentary breakfast, he stopped by and visited with the children. He made the two of them feel really important. He also invited them to an outdoor BBQ that he hosted for all of the guests.
The hotel is right across the street form a bus stop, which brings you right to the Metro Orange Line - so if you miss the complimentary shuttle to Union Station, this is an easy way to get o all of the sites.
The entire staff reflected the friendliness and professionalism of the General Manager.
We will definitely stay here again.

Dear Guest; Thank you very much for your rave review. It means a lot to us to receive a 5 star review. We really appreciate your kind remarks for Carl, our General Manager. He has a way of making people feel at ease and we are pleased to see his personality and professionalism as well as our entire staff, was well received by you and your family. Thank you for recognizing him personally in your review.

Thank you as well for the tip about the bus line, that is a big help for our other guests and we will make note of that at the desk as an alternate to taking our shuttle.

We look forward to seeing you and your family again the next time you return to Washington DC.

Here we are traveling with a 2 and 1/2 year old and all she wants to do is swim , can you blame her, and again i ask the manager, you are sure itis heated yes it is , are you positive it will be open yes it will be don't worry just come we are expecting you.
We get there and it is so cold that we are freezing putting her in this pool, and it wasn't that clean as well, the adult jacuzzi should have been cleaned, as well, i was a little disapointed and sorry that we just did not stay in national harbor and have a better opportunity to have a nice dinnner as nothing and I say nothing is in this area that is accomodating to eat nearby.
Further, I must say that we had issues with our bill and they overchrarged our stay to anothers and it took several weeks to accomodate that thank goodness for amex.

Room Tip: do not expect a heated pool for sure.

Dear Guest; Thank you for sharing your review with us. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. We have been informed that the difficulties with the heater cycling on and off in the pool area as been fixed and the heater is back to functioning properly.

We understand that does not take back the negative experience you had with us and apologize to you and your family for the misinformation regarding the pool and further apologize for the billing issue you had.

We welcome the opportunity to have you as our guest again so we can show we can provide a much better experience.

I visited the hotel on a business trip and booked it as it had a complimentary shuttle. Unaware, the shuttle ran in the morning and towards the end of the work day. I checked in at 2:45pm to notice that I would not have transportation for an upcoming meeting. The hotel asked when I would need the shuttle and I explained....10 minutes. In 10 minutes I had a shuttle. I was thoroughly relieved after having a flight delay and poor transportation on my way to the hotel.

I had a clean room, bathroom and the breakfast was good too.

We visited Washington DC from Ottawa Canada from the 15th to the 19th of April. We took a highway that took us nearly straight south to Washington which is about an 11 hour drive. The hotel was easy to find as it is located on a major NE intersection. I parked the car and never used it again before our stay was over. (When we checked in, I do seem to remember being told that parking would not be charged but it was.) The hotel has a free shuttle bus service leaving for downtown in the morning and bringing guests back to the hotel in the evening which we used every day. The drivers are polite and mostly on time. We especially liked Lamar, he knows the area very well and will share his knowledge with you. It is a 20 minute drive to Union station, which is the city's train station. From there you can use the Big Bus Tour to visit the city. We paid for a two day tour and I think we got our money's worth (about $100 each). The tour offers three circuits and it would be difficult to cram them all in one day's schedule. We also used the metro, but I found the ticketing machines very user-UNfriendly. As I said above, the hotel is located on a busy intersection but the rooms are soundproof. We stayed in room 100, right down the end of the hall on the first floor. Our only issue is the sound of a door next to ours that slammed from time to time. The staff was polite and very efficient. I LOVED the free lemonade on the right side of the entrance. They even had cookies from time to time. The hotel is located in an industrial area of town and there are only fast food joints nearby but I would recommend take-out orders. I had some pad-thai and one order was good enough for two meals. Safety should not be a problem because there is a police station one block away on Bladensburg uphill from the hotel. There is also a convenience store at the Exxon station in front of the hotel. If I come back to Washington, I dont see why I should stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel faces the street, the back faces a parking area.

Dear Guest; Thank you very much for your detailed review! We are so pleased that you had a great stay and found the hotel to be convenient, in a good, safe, quiet location for you and were able to find your way around town without any issues. We especially like to hear that the shuttle service was very convenient for you and you were able to take advantage of the limited schedule that is offered. We will pass along the compliment to Lamar for you and thank you for recognizing his service personally in your review.

While there is not too many non fast food restaurants immediately around the area, I am glad to hear you found a take out/delivery place that you enjoyed and had a good meal. I will also let the managers know that the lemonade and cookies are a big hit. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us and other readers. Thank you again for your business, we look forward to seeing you again when you return to Washington DC.

We are a fairly low maintenance family when it comes to hotels. It needs a pool for the kids and access to transportation to the sights. When we arrived, the hotel staff took 20 minutes to find our reservation (for which I had a confirmation number). They kindly let us check in early and until our room was ready, we went to the pool. Both the pool and the hot tub were FILTHY the Sunday we arrived and in fact both my husband and one of my children became ill, which I suspect was from the pool. Our room was on the back side of the hotel away from the main road but at 5am, busses in the parking lot started backing up with their reverse sirens beeping, which woke the kids. We asked to move, so they put us in the front of the hotel where we heard traffic all night. The free shuttle into DC was often over booked and did not run often enough. While the staff were friendly, this was overall a terrible hotel experience.

Dear Guest; I'd like to thank you for bringing these items to our attention and for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We will have the filters checked at the pool and whirlpool to make sure they are not clogged as that can make the water appear dirty but the chlorine is always maintained at an appropriate level keeping the water clean. We are sorry that your family had a restless stay due to the location of your guest room. We are on a busy intersection, we should have offered you a room in the middle if we could have so you would not hear the city traffic quite as much.

We strive to provide 100% guest satisfaction and did not offer that to you and your family. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences you faced as our guests.

Staffs are friendly and accommodating. My family were accommodated even though we didn't have advance reservation and arrive at night. Room is well maintained and clean with spacious bathroom. Breakfast was very good and complete. The location is very accessible, near Basilica Cathedral. Easy way in and way out from parking. We will stay here again on our next trip to DC and Virginia. Will recommend to my friends. A walking distance fast foods restaurants near-by.

We have stayed in many hotels over the years....normally we stay at Holiday Inn Express...this location had the most outstanding staff by far! Friendly, courteous, efficient, just plain awesome! Whoever is training/managing this staff should be commended. I would most definitely recommend this location and will stay here on future trips to DC.
