“al fresco”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

We needed a quick, early dinner before our Signature DC by Night bus tour, and Paul is across the street from the pickup spot. Line service, good roast beef sandwich, croque monsieur, and quiche lorraine. Reasonable prices. Nice, outdoor seating.

“Breakfast at Paul-a little bit of Paris in DC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Great outdoor seating this Sunday morning, still a little cool but a lovely view. Delicious lattes, Nova Benedict, and breakfast sandwiches. They were baking fresh bread so the aroma was amazing! A lovely stop before a crazy day!

“Must visit cafe...half-way between the Capitol and the White House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

Great little cafe with French pastries and European atmosphere...it is nice to walk from the Capitol on a cold DC day and stop half- way at Paul! The breads are to die for, the little pastries a delight...I love their salads and sandwiches...early mornings, grab a newspaper and have a continental style breakfast! Lovely!

“Decent pastries”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

We came here for breakfast on the way to the Mall. The selection of pastries is very good and for that alone it stands out against other bakeries. Everything else is pretty much your standard fare. So if pastries for breakfast are your thing, then Paul is a good choice, especially if it's on your way to the Mall from your hotel.

Tip: spend some time looking at the Navy memorial and the reliefs around the outside in particular. I especially liked the motto of the mine defusing divers: initial success or total failure!

“Not good at all, very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

I realize that although this is a chain, it isn't quite the same as the ones in Paris.

But I was still disappointed. Loved the 3 I visited in Paris last year, for both bakery items and sit down meals.

Saturday at 1:30, the place was packed....standing room only, very few seats, too cold to eat outside. The staff was rude and stressed. Had to ask 3 different people what the soup of the day was (French onion). Very expensive offerings, but basically a few baguette sandwiches, some quiches and puff pastries.

Got the salmon and spinach quiche --- wasn't even warm. Was tired looking, the spinach was stringy and the crust was greasy. The "gourmet greens" was a handful of lettuce with a lot of dressing on it.

French onion soup was good. The busser kept coming and trying to take our plates before we'd finished... I realize they want to promote turnover so more people can sit down, but really, let me finish eating first.

Wanted to get a tart or something for dessert but not only was the line long for the dessert counter, but half the case was empty.

Wish I had eaten elsewhere.
