“Business trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

This hotel was very family friendly. I stayed here for 4 weeks on a business trip - honestly, you could stay at a classier hotel down the street for the same price. However, because this was the only hotel in the area that allowed for a 4 week block of time. The overall stay was not bad at all - rooms were clean, staff was friendly.

The staff was exceptional. This hotel is located right around the corner from the White House and is in close proximity to everything a tourist would want to see. The service was great and I hope to stay here again when I return to town.

Great location in DC that was very close to the White House and all the monuments and museums. I arrived to DC via Amtrak and easily managed the subway system to the nearest stop, which was a few blocks away from the hotel. It was convenient to not have a car in the city and having the hotel a few blocks away from the nearest subway stop and being very close to the attractions in the city made the trip very enjoyable.

Took my wife and 8 year old daughter to dc for weekend of sightseeing and decided to stay 3 nights at The Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown. Like most tourist, I was looking for good base to get out and see the sights, and we got that and more out of the this hotel! Price, considering you are staying within walking distance of The White House, Museums, Monuments, Fords Theatre and more, is not to bad. (COMPARE TO OTHER HOTELS IN AREA) If you shop around some of the travel sites you may find a deal, we booked straight from the Hilton website.

As for the hotel itself, the first thing we noticed after our 8 hour drive is how friendly and helpful everyone was. They were joking around with my daughter during check in, and talked to her every time we walked through the lobby after that. Asked if we needed any tips on where to eat or where to go. We used the hotel restaurant once for dinner and once for breakfast. Our waiters were both very pleasant both times. The other thing we initially noticed was how clean it was. Our room was nothing special, but it was very clean, the tv worked fine, and the mini fridge and microwave were nice to have for snacks in between tours or sightseeing. One thing you may want to consider is the beds, sort of hard. I did not mind I like a firm mattress, but if you enjoy sinking into your mattress you may want to think about that. All in all we could not have been happier with our choice in hotels. It fit our budget, it was very clean, and the staff is so helpful!

The staff was great, but the biggest thing for us was the location of the hotel. We walked to the white house, American History and Natural History Museum, Fords Theatre, and most of the major monuments, including Martin Luther King Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, World War 2 Memorial and the Washington Monument. We took a cab roundtrip to the zoo, and took a cab one way to the Capitol one morning. We did walk back to the hotel from the capitol, stopping at the American Indian Museum and the Air and Space Museum before eventually making back to the hotel. It was a lot of walking, and you may want to look into the metro if you do not want to walk that much, but we loved getting out and walking around town!

I would stay at The Hilton Garden Inn Downtown again if I return to Washington DC

From the very beginning, the staff was exceptional, greeted us with smiles and sought to accommodate our needs. The king sized bed was comfortable and the location was good, especially in relation to the White House. The restaurants in the area are varied in cuisine and very good. We would certainly stay there again.

there were many things that were supposedly "complimentary" that just did not exist evidently. We stopped by the hotel desk to ask about the Nintendo that was supposed to be in our room and all the man at the counter did was shrug and say nope. Thanks man with the eyebrows! The pool was laughable, very small! The pictures on the site are very deceiving! The coffee supplied to the room is extremely watery and the towels are so rough! Those are my only complaints,no big deal. The bed, shower, and noise level otherwise was fine.

It's hard to find a good hotel near the center of DC at a reasonable price. This one feels a bit dated but it's clean, the location is excellent and the price, though not a bargain, beats that of most business hotels in the area.
