Not close to main attraction but stone throw distance from metro station and open bus city tour. The rooms are elegantly decorated, great beds and linens, marble bathrooms, clean and fresh. Common areas are impecable.

This vast hotel sits on a slight hill just by the Woodley Park/Zoo DC Metro station. It has a large number of room spread over three low towers. It does a lot of conference and event trade, yet manages to absorb it all easily. The rooms, which seem to have been refurbished recently, are up to the usual comfort level and palette you would expect from a Marriott - ochres, gold, pale blues. The bathrooms are a little on the small side. There is a wide choice of bars and restaurants. The hotel is very convenient for getting around the sights of Washington from the Metro station or take the Circulator bus to Adams Morgan. Pedestrian access could be easier; it's a steepish walk up, specially with bags. Depending which way your room looks you might get a nice view of the Washington Monument or of the National Cathedral. Shirts cost $8.50 to launder.

Room Tip: Try for the Wardman Tower

While we were in the shuttle from the airport to this hotel, we realized that we were nowhere near any of the tourist attractions of DC. This hotel is located about 3-4 miles north of the National Mall in the Woodley Park/Adams Morgan section of town. That being said, unless you are attending a convention, have a reason to stay so far north, or get a very good rate to offset your location, stay elsewhere.

On check-in, as Gold Elite members, we were offered a room in the Wardman Tower. This is the oldest section of the hotel, and we were told that at one time they were apartments. This room was good sized with three different rooms; but there was an musty feel about the room. In addition, while the living area was nice and cool, the bedroom was very warm despite the thermostat being at full blast cold. Temperature issues are not acceptable to me, so we went back to the front desk to ask for a different room. The front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. They fave us a room in the newer central tower. The room was typical for a 1970-ish property. The area of the bed was quite large, but the bathroom was the size of a cruise ship's bathroom with the addition of a bathtub. The bed and lighting were OK, but the TV is located across the room, quite far from the bed.

The Elite lounge on the tenth floor provide a nice breakfast and it was well stocked. We did not eat at the hotel, but had a drink a Harry's Pub. Sevice was only average. The concierge was helpful. In closing, this hotel is just an average property when you consider location, service, and room appointments. It's a busy hotel with many conventions and conferences...but if you want to take in any tourist attractions, you are too far away.

Overall helpful hints: If you want to take public transportation to the attractions, you can take the Metro. Or if you are like me and do not want to take subways, you can take the Circulator bus that stops in front of the McDonalds. Get their map at the concerige desk. Fare is $1.00. They have an extensive route system around town.
You may want to visit the National Cathedral, which you can see from north facing rooms. It looks so close, but don't be fooled. It's 1-1/2 miles away and all uphill. If you do walk and want to continue sightseeing in the National Mall, you can walk down Wisconsin about a mile to the Circulator bus that will take you to Union Station, which is close to the Capitol.
We had dinner at 9pm in the Adams Morgan area on a Sunday night. We did not feel safe in the area.

Room Tip: You will have quite a walk to the lobby if you are in the Wardman Tower, which is the older building...

We stayed here one night for a concert in the city. Metro is right outside the hotel and cabs are always available.
Check in was fairly quick and easy. We didn't use any amenties aside from the pub for a late night bite to eat standard bar food. Oh and their business center charged us $6 to print 8 pages. ATM right near front door.
Parking ranged from 30+ which is normal for DC but still crazy in my mind.
Room was decent but a little small especially the bathroom and we stayed in a king size room in the main tower of the hotel with a view of a roof.

Stayed one night in an Executive Suite. Exceptionally clean; great amenities. Very large hotel with excellent service in the dining rom, at registration and valet check-out. Had breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant and it far exceeded our expectations. No complaints!

Upgraded to Wardman Tower. Not worth it. This is convention hotel and nothing more. Slow, uninterested staff. Wallpaper with multiple patches. Overcharges on room services. Wardman tower hall noise is very loud! No housekeeping to room by 2 pm. Then only after call. Attractive residential-style neighborhood; If I had ever left conference grounds, not sure it was very convenient to any place I would like to go, but pretty.
