“WH Visitor Center with a student from Spain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

I took a student from Spain who was spending a month with my family for a visit to Washington. Lidia wanted a picture of herself in front of the White House. We went into the temporary visitor center to purchase some postcards and gifts for her to take home. Although small, the center was inviting with many gifts and a video showing information about the White House and its history. The video was very helpful in explaining the importance of the White House and why it is high on the list of things to see in Washington.

“Family Reunion 2014”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2014

I didn't like it was a "self guided tour", it was the old historic side of the White House. I didn't expect to see their living quarters but, something up to date, I didn't even see Michelle Obama's picture in the First Lady room, the souvenir shop only had a book with Barack Obama on the last page! Overall I did like that I was standing in the White House, while the first African American President Borack Obama was still in command.

“Go on a Sunday morning for no lines! Worth the time.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

We tried to go each morning of our trip but the line was ENORMOUS due to the temporary site (a small trailer set up while the building is being rehabbed). We woke the last day of our trip on a Sunday morning and there was NOBODY else there when we arrived at 8 a.m. - - we watched the nice 25 min. film that tours you through the white house since we weren't actually touring it and the trip alone was worth getting the official tour book at $15 verses the $30-$50 books that aren't as good at the other gift shops. There was also an educational book for kids with sections for K-3 and grades 4-6 that we will use in our homeschool classes for a fraction of the cost of other places. If you do this early in your trip and haven't taken pics of the White House yet, you can then walk outside and take pics in front of the house from either side.

“Temporary Visitors' Center”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

I would visit here only if you are in need of a cool spot to sit and cool off. You can watch the short film on the White House which shows in a continuous loop. This review is for the temporary visitor center in front of the White House which is in a portable building. I would like to know when the White House Visitor Center proper is going to reopen.

“Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

I was expecting a lot more information on the White House as you cannot tour this site. It seemed to be a place to spend money on souveniers but not much else.
