“Deserves #1 Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

Blessed to have visited the Basilica three times now, twice during the Vigil Mass for Life with ten thousand others who also make the pilgrimage which includes cardinals, bishops and priests from around the world (during the DC March for Life week). Each time I am awestruck by the true magnificence of this very special church. While having seen most of the tourist attractions DC has to offer, it's still easy to call this the most incredible one of all. It's a quick trip on the Metro, at the Brookland stop. It's on the campus of Catholic University of America. If you're lucky enough to be there in mid-January for the March/Mass for Life, you can't beat the experience...if not, you will still find this attraction truly amazing!

“Must see when in DC”

This is the most beautiful church in the USA. Reminded me of being in Rome. Located on the Catholic University Campus.

“Incredible Beauty, Quiet & Peaceful in DC~ Make the Time to Visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

I lived in the DC area for over a year before making the drive to the National Shrine to attend Sunday Mass and take a tour and I wish I would have gone sooner! What a beautiful Basilica! Each of the Marian Chapels are dedicated to a different immigrant group that came to America. The Chapels line the sides of the upper Basilica and also in the crypt area, there are about 70 in total. All include very detailed mosaics of Mary, Jesus, the immigrants or heads of state that helped propagate devotion to the Faith as well as carved statues and many stone details. The domes of the Upper Church are mosaics and all the artwork around the Basilica is so beautiful! Things are changing here all the time and I would suggest that if you wish to spend time in prayer as well as a tour, set aside a full day. The lower church includes a restaurant, book store and gift shop. There is so very much to see and take in and be inspired by! I hated to leave and can't wait to go back! The tours are Mon-Sat 9;00am - 11:00am and 1:00pm -3:00pm; Sunday1:30pm-3:30pm Confessions and Masses held daily.
