“A "must see" site in DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

Attended Sunday mass and very impressed with this church, the largest Catholic Church in America. Choir sang which was a lovely addition to the service. Mosaic ceilings are so beautiful as are the stained glass windows. Riding Metro was quick and easy way to reach this site.

“See what the majestic churches of Europe would look like when new”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Although the great churches in Europe are wonders to behold, they often appear dark and are desperately in need of vibrant congregations. The basilica is just as majestic as many of the ancient structures but also is a living church that will inspire those that visit. It will be a good investment of time to plan a visit for a mass so the sites and sounds can add to the fullness of the experience.

“Hidden gem in Washibgton DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

The Basilica is well worth making the effort to see. The mosaics are spectacular giving a colourful, airy impression to the church. In addition to the main church there is a cafeteria offering hot food and snacks at reasonable prices, a bookstore and gift store all on the lower floor as well as large restrooms. The main religious area is accessible by lift from the ground floor and is fully accessible once there.

It really is a hidden gem, situated in the Catholic University area and surrounded by lawns, flowerbeds and student facilities. It's a short walk from the Metro station with a bus service from
downtown. Worth including a visit to this peaceful church alongside any of the museums.

“A Beautiful Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

We visited during our most recent trip to DC. Went largely because of the positive TripAdvisor reviews. Completely worth the time. A stunningly beautiful church full of color and history and grace. Do yourself a favor and visit while in town. A true treasure.
