“smiles, serenity and superb organization”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

I stayed at this hotel with family over Easter and we were all impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff during a very very busy weekend. Arrivals and departures were made as easy as possible and extra staff was put on to help when necessary. The rooms are very clean and very comfortable and well-outfitted (except for the lack of a refrigerator).
We were out for all our meals and so unable to try out the hotel restaurant which looked very appealing. We did at times smell odors from the kitchen by the elevator on the ground floor, but the elevators are fast and efficient so that wasn't a real problem.
The staff, at all levels, was definitely one aspect that made this hotel stay stand out.

Thank you ggflorence. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves—the staff are absolutely what make this hotel stand out. We appreciate your compliments!

We’re glad to have hosted you during a holiday weekend. It sounds like your family enjoyed themselves! Perhaps Easter at the Fairmont will become an annual tradition and we will get to see you again!

I was positively surprised by how quickly the check-in process went. When we got to the hotel, a young woman welcomed us, typed our name on the Ipad she was carrying, went to the front desk to get us our keys and walked us to the elevators. Our check-out took less than a minute using the same personalized process.
Very friendly and service oriented staff.

29Worldtraveler, thank you for posting this feedback! The speedy iPad check-ins and check-outs are a feature we’ve introduced in the past year and we love to hear what guests think about them. It sounds like you had quite the pleasant experience!

We greatly appreciate your kind words toward our “very friendly and service oriented staff.” We’ll take on the competition any day—we are positive that we have the finest staff in the city and love to hear guests sing their praises.

Stayed here for one night after a business trip in Virginia. Booked two rooms (for myself and a colleague) on Expedia based on location and cost. Friendly staff on arrival who took care of our bags as we checked in. Was pleasantly surprised to be allocated rooms on the ninth ("gold") floor which boasted a lounge with complimentary food. We were also entitled to use the health club facilities free of charge, but sadly had a full schedule while we were in Washington so were unable to take advantage of this.
Room was good-sized and clean, with a large bed, a desk and a comfortable chair. Turn-down service included a small bottle of water (as others on here have noted, standard charge for a bottle of water is $7 - but there is a Starbucks and CVS close by so there are other options)
Public areas looked lovely - especially the restaurant/bar overlooking the garden.
Took us only about 20 minutes to walk down to the White House area, and the hop on/hop off sightseeing buses depart from just five minutes away so was a great location for us.
Only a couple of things that could be improved:- after checking in, I had about 90 minutes before needing to go out again so wanted to have a bath - water was barely lukewarm (about 6pm) though was fine in the morning. And when we went to pick up our cases (after leaving them with the concierge while we went out for the day) we had to wait ages and people after us got theirs first. But these are small niggles and I would happily stay here again if I were visiting Washington (even without the room upgrade)

This beautiful hotel sits close to the Georgetown "border." It is easily accessible by public transportation. The lobby provides adequate seating capacity and looks out to a large courtyard. The rooms are nice and they even provided me with a Sunday NY Times which has never happened before!

Artbacisny, thank you for the review! It sounds like you enjoyed yourself during your recent visit. We couldn’t be happier!

You make an excellent point about the hotel being easily accessible by public transportation. With the metro only 3 blocks away and the Georgetown-Dupont Circle Circulator providing transportation every 10 minutes, it’s certainly easy to get around. Thank you for the visit and review. We hope to see you again soon!

We used the opportunity to visit DC during the cherry blossom festival to stay here. Absolutely great place. Rooms are beautiful. Location is very nice. It is a little further from the closest Metro station at Foggy Bottom. Takes about 15 min walk. Not bad.

Great restaurant choices near by. Juniper is pretty good too. Will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Check out rooms on 9th floor for gold members....

Thank you GurinderS! You picked a great time to visit – we’re glad you got to experience the Cherry Blossom Festival and our hotel!

You are absolutely right about the great restaurant choices nearby. Between the restaurants in our neighborhood, Georgetown and Dupont Circle, any and all travelers can find a favorite. We hope you come back again soon – and get to try some more of the great restaurants!

The Fairmont is a beautiful hotel with a lovely garden in the center courtyard. From the warm and efficient welcome upon arrival, the hotel has a superb staff of helpful and friendly people. The room was large, bright, and relaxing with a luxuriously comfortable bed and well-stocked bathroom. We were upgraded to the 9th floor executive section and had complimentary hors d'oeuvres at cocktail time and a delicious buffet breakfast in the morning. Excellent real latte too. We are loyal Fairmont fans and I would heartily recommend this hotel. It is centrally located in a residential area without the crowds of tourists.

We arrived at 11am to check-in, figuring the rooms would not be ready until 4pm as stated, but we thought we'd give it a try. The front desk clerk told us our rooms were not ready, but she would get them ready asap for us. We came back at 4:30pm and our rooms were still not ready. We let them know we weren't happy, the front desk clerk gave us attitude, but they promptly put us in two rooms that weren't adjoining, but close by, which was ok with us. One of the rooms they assigned us was so loud! We were on the top floor, and the compressor in the roof made it sound like a helicopter was taking off. It was intermittent, and I didn't notice it until I was in bed trying to go to sleep. And once I heard it, I couldn't "un-hear" it. It was maddening. The next day I had the maintenance man come in and he agreed immediately that he compressor was very loud. Long story short, they did not put us in a new room and only took off $50 from the 2nd night stay after I complained (even tho we were there for 2 nights). We should not have been put in that room in the first place. If the maintenance man could hear the noise immediately and agree with me, there is no reason they should put anyone in that room. Too bad because it was a beautiful hotel and we would have liked to have stayed there again, but we'll choose someplace else next time.
