Description: Reservations are not required. Contact us for large parties or special events. Feel free to contact us regarding our seating policy. Yes, we do serve brunch/lunch on Sunday with a great prix fixe including French Toast, Steak and Eggs, Eggs Benedict and bottomless bloody Marys, mimosas and screwdrivers. During the evenings, Medium Rare offers a unique, prix fixe dinning experience of artisan bread; a mixed green salad; prime, dry-aged steak; and hand-cut fries in a relaxed, fun, neighborhood environment. As we do only one thing, we do our best to make the food and experience exceptional and also a good value. There are only a few wine, spirits, and draft beer choices, but each were selected specifically to accompany your meal. We offer an off-the-menu vegetarian option. Please contact us to inquire.

“No Decisions, just delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Medium Rare doesn't have a menu, because the only choice you get is how you like your meat cooked. This is a steak frites only restaurant. (there is a portabello option). The thing I love about this place is once you sit down, the only thing you have to decide is what kind of wine to drink. You know how much your evening will cost, there is no issue splitting the bill among friends, and you never have food envy. The steak is good, the fries are great. They bread and salad are also top notch. I am not a fan of peppercorn sauce, so I request without, but I know others love it. Perhaps the most fun though is that once you've cleaned your plate, a server walks around asking you if you want seconds. The bathrooms here are kick! They teach you romantic french phrases, which gets pretty hysterical after a few glasses of wine.

Brunch is a good option here. There are actually more options for brunch than dinner. The mimosas are pretty weak, but the food is solid.

“Always a hit as a family outing!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This restaurant has a great formula for success. Brilliant in it's simplicity. Steak and fries. Yes that's it, steak and fries. And delicious too. Once seated you get some lovely hot bread, a good salad and then sliced steak and fries with house sauce which is v. good. Even better they come around and give your table a second helping! All for $19.99. This has become the number one choice of my sons when going out. They also have a perfectly good beer and wine selection and desserts too. If you can't be happy here, you can't be happy. Only small drawback is that it is hectic and the staff rushes around with their hair on fire. Would be even better if they just took a few deep breaths and were a little calmer. After all, they're serving dinner, not saving lives. Still- I'd recommend it without reservation.

“Great times and great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

This place is clever in its sole mission of delivering steak and fries to the residents of the DC area. The fix price was deal is pretty good for the area. The beer/wine selection was nice but not cheap. The steak was tasty and fries were outstanding. The fries outshone the steak at some points. Overall, the food was nice and value even better.

“Very good deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We have been to Medium Rare several times and always had a great experience. It's a pretty good deal for the money - and for DC in general. The bread is delicious and just learned that they sell it as well. Portions are generous, very tasty meat with delicious sauce. They never seem to get the second portion cooked right- no matter how you asked for your steak in the first round. It's still very good- just not cooked the way you wanted. Deserts are quite good. The restaurant also plays very nice music.
