Looked at menu and asked hostess if they accommodate dairy allergies. She was very helpful. Had a wonderful table outdoors on a great day. People at two nearby tables had their dogs, fairly common in Eastern Market/Barracks Row. I had a Finocchio salad, with shaved fennel, radicchio, pine nuts and one thin slice of parmesan, which was good, I could control how much or little I ate, and it wasn't a problem. They would have left it off if I had requested. Delicious! Only thing is that the fennel is sort of a light brown color, but that's how it is and tasted very fresh, just odd for a salad. They had several other choices, including Greek, Caprese, etc. I had the sirloin with "Mirtilo" sauce, a rich blueberry with consistency like pie filling. Sounds odd but super! Other choices for sirloins are balsamic vinegar reduction, a brandy cream sauce and just grilled. Tons of great sounding pasta choices. I had the $20 three course lunch, 3rd course is dessert, and they were nice enough to do something in place of the dessert, which they did not have to do, and I understand sometimes are unable to do. I would have been happy with a side of any cooked veggie. The salad and steak were well worth $20. For me, this will probably be a "once in a great while" lunch splurge that I really, really look forward to. It is worth the trip and indulgence. Also, exceptional server and other staff!
