Description: Welcome to The Chesapeake Room where our mission is simple… To bring our guest an organic, sustainable & free range dining experience while bringing to life the natural & fresh taste of each season. We have a passion for all that our beautiful Mid-Atlantic waters & farms have to offer & hope you will, too. Our fish and shellfish are local and fresh. Our meat, fowl and game are local and grown humanely. Our interior is hand crafted from the same wood that Les Paul guitars are made from! We have a great patio (enclosed and heated when it's cold) great for parties and alfresco dining. Our Brunch was rated amongst the best by the Washington Post and is a specialty. It all happens in our open kitchen with the Chef creating all our food from scratch. Sports on quietly on our plasma screens at our full bar. A historic restaurant in the middle of Barrack's Row. Thanks for coming!

“Slightly Above Average Food, Average Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

The menu looked promising so on our last night in DC we ate here. Well, the service was very spotty and when our waiter did pay attention to us he was nice but it was very infrequent and we kept having to ask the busboy for things like: silverware, water, can we order our meal, etc. We started off with the smoked shrimp salad. The smoked shrimp were good but at $16 they only gave you 3 small ones. The rest is lettuce :( I ordered the scallop risotto and my husband ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was quite flavorful, the fries nothing to write home about and while my scallops were good, the risotto was hard and not soft and creamy as it should be.

If you don't want to be distracted by the big TV's , sit on the patio and people watch. If you aren't sure if the menu is what you want, go to 7th Hill Pizza down the street, it rocks.

“Pleasantly Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

Had a very pleasant couple of hours on the patio at the Chesapeake Room.

Tried the fried oyster appetizer -- actually pretty good. The oysters appeared to have been fresh before being deep fried.

Tried the shrimp and hummus appetizer -- probably a tad above average for a true hummus lover. The shrimp seemed irrelevant.

The mixed drinks were nothing special. The wine selection was serviceable.

The entree of the day was a creative offering whose main virtue was, unfortunately, its creativity.

I'd certainly go there again. The food and drink supported the pleasant neighborhood ambience for catching up with old friends rather than serving as the centerpiece of the experience.

With that proviso, you probably would enjoy an evening at the Chesapeake Room as much as we did.

I had a cup of the Crab soup, it was OK ...the Oyster Salad was good but oysters were small. Service was good.

“Very good food... if you like small portions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

The crab soups and oysters were excellent. I like small portions, so I was happy. But if you don't, the appetizers are not for you.

“Good food, great ambiance, friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

My wife and I ate there on recent Sunday night and were very pleased. The dark paneling and large pictures of Chesapeake scenes give it a homey feel. Our waiter was attentive, humorous and prompt. Sunday night seems to be a good time to come, as the placed was not packed. Our meals were excellent. My wife had shrimp, scollops and grits and enjoued it very much. I had a very tasty bison burger. We'll be back.
