“Can you say "Scallop Margarita Ceviche and Grilled Octopus Salad?"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Oh, man! This place was so great! We went to Ris on an early Saturday evening and sat at the bar. We were promptly greeted by two very nice-looking young men, Noel and Tyler, who were really fine bartenders and very personable.

They were very helpful as to what to order off the menu (full menu at the bar) and they weren't wrong in their suggestions! We ordered:

- Scallop Margarita (ceviche): lime marinated scallops with chilies, orange, avocado and tequila ice. This stuff is amazing and rich!!

- Grilled Octopus Salad: on Greek yogurt with feta dressing, cucumber, cured lemon, spinach and croutons. So tender and flavorful, perfect!

- Pine Nut Crusted Wild Alaska Halibut: asparagus, prosciutto and mushrooms with feta,
cured lemon and olive oil potatoes

We really did enjoy being there, mostly because Noel and Tyler were a lot of fun to talk with about music, etc. We stayed and stayed, having great wine, drinks, and good conversation all evening. Speaking of wine...the Sophenia Malbec is DELISH!! And I learned how much I love Mescal Tequila! I had their El Buho....oh, kids, I'm telling you...it's just smoky warm goodness that goes all the way to your toes after you drink it! And no nasty headache the next day. :)

So, when you are in DC, definitely look this place up and sit at the bar while having some real conversation with the bartenders - oh, and don't let any of the stodgy "regulars" deter you from enjoying your visit to this great place!

“Underwhelming brunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014 via mobile

The brunch menu at Ris has something for whatever mood one may be in. Having said that , the food was good , not great and not a good value. Service was attentive but not warm and friendly . The Bloody Mary's were somewhat weak and under-flavored. There is a lot of competition for brunch in DC and there are other places I would go to before returning to this one.

“Great dining experience in DC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

Wonderful food and atmosphere. The mussels, lamp rack and lamb shank were all terrific. The chef was friendly and engaging. Even found a good value Turley Zinfandel on the wine list. Martinis were well made. Definitely a winner.

“excellent food and service--- welcoming ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

We had a work dinner here last week, and it was such a lovely meal and evening. I've eated here 1-2 times a year, when i'm in DC, and i've never had a bad meal or bad service!
For large groups, the table in the back easily seats 15ish people, and we had the entire area to ourselves. We'd organized a pre-set dinner with 3 choices for appetizer, entree and dessert---all excellent, and everyone enjoyed their choices. Fresh food, well presented, perfectly cooked. I arrived a bit late and still was served with the others--- and they also adjusted the entree for me, without missing a beat. I had asparagus salad and then crab cakes--- both amazingly good. Dessert of berries/tart was ok--- crust wasnt very flaky. Great service-- -very attentive for our big group. Ris feels like a comfortable American cuisine with elegance and unusual mixes. Excellent restaurant, and i'll be back again many times.

“Comfortable place, good food, a bit elegant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

We had a very satisfying lunch here during the week. Two of us had the fish of the day, which was mahi-mahi. Well-prepared and a good-sized serving. The place is very comfortable, a little posh. The service was friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a try.
