“Go here if you like good beer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is potentially one of the best beer bars in the country. If you are a fan of good beer do not miss a stop at the Churchkey. You don't have to be a beer geek to appreciate this massive list of beers from around the country. Also have very good food!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

50 draft beers, all from small brewers, busy with locals.
chocolate beer that tastes like thick dark choc - truly weird.
bar food or separate high end restaurant down stairs.
great atmosphere upstairs, take a torch for the restaurant, its all lit by candles

“Great beer selections, but so crowded!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

This place sounded awesome online. We are huge beer lovers, so 4 of us decided to stop here after dinner on Saturday night while visiting the city. Big mistake! We could barely walk in the place! We left after about 30 minutes. The set up is really not meant to hold all those people. It is like a long bar with about 5 feet of space from the bar to the few booths they have along the other side of the wall. Being so close to everyone, it was hard to drink your beer for fear of it being knocked out of your hand by crowd that surrounds you. If you don't mind a packed room, then check it out. If you are claustrophobic, hate crowds or prefer to have some breathing room, then it's not for you. On the upper hand though, people were nice to allow you to get up to the bar and let you order your drink. Even though you have to do so over their heads...

“Could be great, but just too crowded!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

I've been here a few times in the last couple years. The beer selection is fantastic and they offer some very good food.

But by early evening on a weekend, it's really unpleasantly crowded, loud, and hot. On my last trip, no matter where you went, you couldn't get out of the way of the constant flow of people pressing in. And the staff was just noticeably frustrated and rude. I didn't even bother ordering a drink, but just turned around and left after a few minutes.

Obviously they are doing something right to attract this kind of crowd, but they ruin a potentially terrific bar/restaurant experience by packing so many people inside. If you go on a weekend evening, go early or go ready to be uncomfortable. Either way, I think the beer selection is unrivaled by many (if any) other bars in DC.

“Best beer pub in DC!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

No question that this is the best beer pub I have ever been too. They have a large selection (over 500 options) of bottles, cans, drafts, and beers on cask. I love that they update their new beers on their twitter handle: @churchkeydc
I'll admit, it's a bit of a clusterfu#$ in there, meaning it is way too crowded at all times. Trying to get a table to sit down and eat some food? Fogetaboutit. You gotta show up when they open, or late at night if you want to sit down to a nice table.
Regardless, if you want to try the rarest beers, you will want to check out this place. My only qualm is they have a collection of rare beers on a few shelves in the back, all of which I would love to try, but you can't order those beers.
I can't tell you about the food, because I've never had it.
