“The most underrated monument”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2006

The FDR monument is specatacular. Without a doubt a beautiful design and a wonder to expirience. Expirience is an apt word as you walk through a chronology of his presidency in a way, including a nice tribute to Elanor. Some wonderful quotes and a fantastic monument.

“Much more than I expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2006

Well-done summary of FDR's presidency. I particularly liked the statue of Eleanor. The quotations carved in the walls add much. What I remember most, surprisingly, is the depiction of the hopelessness of the depression era. A memorable monument to be sure.

“Outstanding”

The Jefferson memorial is better situated and the Vietnam Veterans memorial is more moving, but overall the FDR is best. This one pulls you in. While you are left reading great words on marble in the others (I ended up having to explain who Jefferson and Lincoln were to my kids) the FDR somehow involves you. Halpern (the designer and architect) did a great job here. I noticed jaded teens standing and sitting with the statues explaining the Great Depression. I almost wept seeing wheelchair bound toursits next to the statue of FDR in his wheelchair. The theme of flowing water perfectly captures this great man's many, varied and still growing contributions to America. My 10 year old pointed out no other monument had a statue of the man with his dog - as this one does. My 14 year old daughter liked the section devoted to Ellenor Roosevelt. Go at night. All the monuments are better at night, lit up and less heat/humidity. FDR is especially lovely at night.

“My Husband's Favorite Memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2004

My husband just loves this Memorial. I like it too. Like the other reviewer said, it is different from all the rest. The waterfalls are very nice. We live in the area and love to take our dog walking down by this Memorial. Please show respect though and STAY OUT of the fountains. These are not wading pools and many tourists don't seem to understand that this is a Memorial to one of our late, great presidents. There are plentiful restrooms and benches to sit and reflect or rest. This Memorial is closest to Jefferson Memorial, but is pretty out of the way. It is a nice walk though, from the Jefferson to here.

“My Favorite Memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2004

I loved the FDR Memorial! It is over by the Jefferson Memorial at the Tidal Basin. I'm sure the location keeps some people from knowing about it, or going over there. This is a Must-See Memorial! It is different than the others, but very interesting, educational and moving. I loved the waterfalls and carved quotes from FDR. If you didn't know much about Eleanor or Franklin, you will learn much just by visiting this memorial.
