“Huge Cathedral with a lot to see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2007

The National Cathedral is truly impressive. It is huge and has a lot to look at and explore.

It is interesting because in addition to religious subjects, American history is also represented in the architecture of the Cathedral. There are stained glass windows of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Lewis and Clark. It is also the burial place of Woodrow Wilson.

Make sure to walk all the way around the Cathedral to see all the different arichitecual elements. Also stop by the Bishop's garden.

If you are light on time I would suggest just picking up a pamphlet and doing a self guided tour. If you have more time I would sugesst taking one of the guided tours.

“No parking, but outstanding facility.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2007

As the seat of the diocese for the Episcopal church, the National Cathedral doesn't disappoint. I've only ever seen anything to equal it in Europe. The glass is fantastic and it's so magnificent. The gardens are also terrific. Nice little gift shop, if you like churches at all, don't miss this. Getting there is tough, you have to take the Metro and a bus, or drive and hope to find a space in a neighborhood around the grounds. They are supposedly trying to make it better.

“A must trip in the Georgetown area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2004

As long as you can get across the bridge and get to Georgetown, you can get to the Cathedral. It truly is at the highest point in DC and is visible from everywhere. Parking is a bit scarce on Sunday when church is in service but I would imagine its busy at anytime. The church is the largest one I have ever seen. Photos are allowed inside the cathedral. Once you have explored the ground level, make sure to go down to the lower levels. There are several other chapels and the architecture of the entire structure is magnificent. We were there on a sunny Sunday at noon when the temp was 72. The carillon was playing and it was a moving experience.
