“European beauty made in America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

This looks like the old cathedrals in Europe but with modern American charm. Worth the visit and I highly recommend getting the audio-tour to learn the facts about the cathedral.

“Historic, Beautiful Views, Mesmerizing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

The Washington National Cathedral is amazing. So architecturally phenomenal, while being a wonderfully engaging, active church. WIth its outreach to the nation, it has wonderful tours, services, and amenities.
I love taking out of town visitors there on Sunday for services. You can be comfortable being "traveler" business casual, and still honor God.
Don't miss the ride to the areas where you can see the views of Washington D.C.
Do take the tour so you know what you are seeing - it is worth the time!

“The highest point in DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

You are free to tour--pay what you wish. Three gift shops. One thrift store. Very large - on the scale of Notre Dame in Paris--6th biggest int he world. A real sense of history. Go observe from the top deck. Also note the small chapel sized to 6 yr olds. Not tooo far from zoo and walking distance to two Amys for top-choice pizza. Open despite some damage from 2011 earthquake. Sit where presidents have sat! Gorgeous stained glass.

“Classic, beautiful and moving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

The National Cathedral is one of my top-two favorite spots in DC. Built in the manner of a classic Gothic cathedral, complete with cool gargoyles and stonework, it still has modern touches throughout. The stained glass is stunning, including one with a piece of moon rock. The grandeur of the main nave contrasts nicely with the small side chapels and the lower level chapels. While it usually has many tourists, you can find a spot in one of the small chapels to meditate or pray. There are a lot of nice nooks in the place. It's great to photograph as well. There is an excellent gift shop selling religious items and books as well as nice general gifts. The gardens outside are well tended and full of seasonal flowers and plants, great for wandering. It's easy to get to and there is street parking in the area. A wonderful, timeless experience for visitors and locals alike.

“Warm & Free Docent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

The Cathedral has spectacular stained glass windows of all styles. It is one of the larger gothic cathedrals on earth and is a great introduction to this style. The viewing area on the 7th floor *using the elevator) gives a great overlook of the building's roofs & buttresses as well as the City.
