“Classic, beautiful and moving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

The National Cathedral is one of my top-two favorite spots in DC. Built in the manner of a classic Gothic cathedral, complete with cool gargoyles and stonework, it still has modern touches throughout. The stained glass is stunning, including one with a piece of moon rock. The grandeur of the main nave contrasts nicely with the small side chapels and the lower level chapels. While it usually has many tourists, you can find a spot in one of the small chapels to meditate or pray. There are a lot of nice nooks in the place. It's great to photograph as well. There is an excellent gift shop selling religious items and books as well as nice general gifts. The gardens outside are well tended and full of seasonal flowers and plants, great for wandering. It's easy to get to and there is street parking in the area. A wonderful, timeless experience for visitors and locals alike.

“Warm & Free Docent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

The Cathedral has spectacular stained glass windows of all styles. It is one of the larger gothic cathedrals on earth and is a great introduction to this style. The viewing area on the 7th floor *using the elevator) gives a great overlook of the building's roofs & buttresses as well as the City.

“Beautiful and huge!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Not to miss, very large and has several rooms offset from main area that serve other purposes. Tip if interested, ask where the Girl Scout Trefoil is located. :)

“Better than many of the European Cathedrals!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We have visited more than 100 chathedrals in Europe and the National Cathedral in D.C. matches the best and is awe-inspiring. Tours are offered if one wishes and should be joined if time allows. The jaunt to the top is worth the trip as the spires, and like, are interesting to see, as is the view. The history of the construction is a story worth hearing.

“Palm Sunday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

My friend and I visited for a service on Palm Sunday, the service was a rather bland Episcopalian event but the Church is magnificent. It strongly reminded me of cathedrals I visited in Europe. It seemed austere in the best sense of that word.
