“Great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011

We stayed at this hotel during our recent visit to DC. The decor, staff, cleanliness and location was terrific. When we booked the hotel I did not realize it was in Chinatown, I just knew it was the best value I could find. When we arrived I was thrilled with everything. There are multiple great restaurants within walking distance, the area felt very safe and the location of the Metro was perfect. The conceirge was very helpful in suggesting and booking our tours and bus reservations.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our room was double queen, which had enough space for us 3 including an 11 year old child. It provided complimentary breakfast and free Wi-Fi access in the room, which saved us a lot of time and money. It was located in Chinatown, one block from the metro station and very convenient to access from everywhere. It looked recently renovated and all the facilities were clean and modern. As it was a business hotel, there were no luxury restaurants, bars and swimming pool like other tourist hotels. But if you’re looking for a value for money and well located hotel, this is the right one. As it is located in downtown, we could walk to most of the famous attractions and there were lots of nice restaurants nearby. Some Chinese restaurants were open until late night, so we could enjoy late-night snacks like soup noodle wearing casual clothes and slipper after having shower. Staff were very kind and always welcoming. They put a jar of fortune cooky on the front desk, like most Chinese restaurants do, so we could tell our fortune every morning for amusement. We were satisfied with this hotel and would stay here again.

This new Fairfield Inn was a wonderful surprise for us. It's very new (it was a different brand of hotel that Fairfield totally renovated) & our room was extremely well done. The rooms are not huge but it was enough room for the 3 of us. You are within blocks of all the sights in Washington DC too. Plus you are in Chinatown - lots of good Chinese restaurants within a block or two. The Free breakfast was excellent although it's very busy but there was plenty of food for everyone. We wanted to see everything so we took a tour - I highly recommend the 'On Board' tour. We took the 3 hour tour & it was excellent plus there is a longer tour in which you also go on a boat ride on the Potamac. We had gone on a dinner cruise the night before so we skipped that but I would recommend it if you haven't been on the Potomac River.

Parking is by valet for $33/day. It was well worth it since we were touing the East Coast and had our car with us.

I like this place because
1. It's right in Chinatown, with lots of great food options.
2. Convenient -- 2 blocks from the Metro station.
3. Central location.
4. Excellent breakfast selection.

Now for the details:
I got here about barely 2 weeks after the opening day, and I could still smell the new carpet and upholstery! The interior of the hotel looked great, and the room was nice as
well -- both with an Asian flair complementary to its location in Chinatown.

If you are in DC for a conference at the convention center, and don't mind taking a nice stroll in the morning getting to the convention center, this hotel is an excellent option.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. They would keep your luggage for you if your room is not yet ready, or if you check out but are not leaving town until much later in the day.

The room I had faced H street, and I can't recall now if it was on the 4th or 6th floor -- it was high enough to be reasonably well insulated from the street noise. The breakfast selections were great! Complimentary tea and coffee available 24/7 in the lobby.

As for those who may be out late at night and want to know about the safety of the area: Chinatown has lots of places open for very late dining. During my stay, there were always a few locals and tourists walking around in the very late evening. During the day, Chinatown is a very busy area. Amongst the crowds of people moving around, you will see transients hanging around the metro station, mostly during the day till early evening. They won't bother you. They disappear when night falls. As a solo traveler, I did not encounter issues.

I would stay here again, and highly recommend this hotel.

My 13 year old daughter and I spent three nights at this newly renovated hotel, sightseeing and relaxing in a king corner suite. The complimentary breakfast spread is amazing but heads up, it gets really crowded. Best to come early and enjoy everything from fresh fruit and yogurt to waffles and bagles to cereals and oatmeal. They even have Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches and sausage rolls! The location is terrific for seeing the sites; there is a Metro stop just a couple blocks away, but we walked all over and visited the museums. We even walked back from the Lincoln Memorial -- at 10:30 at night when the DC Tours lady went off and left us. You ought to read that review! Anyway, back to the hotel. Excellent service, spotless room, great location, and comfortable beds. We'll be back, next weekend, in fact!

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in July 2011. My husband was doing business most of the time, but I was doing the tourist thing. The location of the hotel is fantastic for the price. It is in the middle of Chinatown and easy walking distance to Capitol Hill and many other DC amenities. What you can't walk to is easily accessible by the Metro -- the hotel is in the middle of two stops on the Red Line -- one of them (Chinatown -- Gallery) connects to the Green and Yellow lines so you can get into both Maryland and Virginia from there. It was a great centre from which to operate.

The hotel has been recently refurbished and feels new, clean and very modern. We were there in the middle of a serious heat wave and the air conditioning had no trouble handling it. Breakfast is part of the deal and it was one of the better ones I've found in hotels. Free wi-fi and DSL internet is also available.

We also spent a fair bit of time in the Irish Pub attached to the hotel -- I did say it was a heat wave! But there were a number of other good restaurants within easy walking distance. I'd stay there again if I get back to DC.

Very happy to say we had a great visit at this hotel! This is a very nice Fairfield Inn (newly renovated) in the China town area. The Asian theme of decorating was nice, fresh and tasteful. The check in process was easy. The desk staff was super; very friendly, efficient and accommodating! The unloading/check in area was around the corner and valet parking drop off is very small, so it was a bit confusing. Although I wasn’t thrilled with the parking price ($33 overnight), it worked out very well. The valet staff was excellent! - very quick and efficient. When we checked out, our car was to us in 5 minutes.

The rooms were very clean, nicely appointed and newly decorated. In my online reservation I requested extra towels, and they were already in the room (it was nice not to call the front desk about that!). The bathroom was also very clean and well lit. Only recommendation is to have an exhaust fan. It got really steamy after showers. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows, and crisp clean linens. Air conditioning worked well and was not noisy. We liked sitting in the lobby area to relax for some time in the evening. There were computers available, large TV in the corner while the coffee, tea and ice water was a great touch after a day touring.

We enjoyed the continental breakfast. There was a very nice variety of food (bagels, muffins, cereal, juice, waffles, fruit, yogurt, Jimmy Dean sausage/egg biscuits). The staff did a great job of keeping the breakfast area clean and replenished. When we were there the hotel was crowded, so the breakfast area was very crowded. It was hard to find a seat as well. Although it looked like some people were just hanging around waiting for their cab/bus, instead of giving up seats to others who were just getting their breakfast.

The hotel was within walking distance of the DC attractions - Smithsonian, Spy Museum, Archives and about a 5 minute drive from Union Station. If you are visiting DC to see the sites and vacation, I would recommend this place. The location is good, the property and amenities are very nice. This was a great stay. We will definitely stay at this hotel again!
