“Eldon Was Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2009

I recently stayed at the Eldon and had a very nice, comfortable stay. The rooms are very large and well appointed. The kitchens are very well equipped as well.

The living rooms have flat panel televisions, the bathrooms have wonderful shower jetted showers as well.

The location is perfect if you are traveling on business, the convention center is less than 1 block away and down town with all the restaurants and the Verizon center are only 4 blocks away. The buildings on the block are run down, but that is in no way the Eldon's fault. I have traveled to most all of the major cities on the east coast for business and you find that pretty much everywhere.

The service staff is all very genuine and friendly. They went out of there way to ensure my comfort during my stay.

The art and lighting in the building is very nice and classy. I walked through all the floors just to see the nice paintings on each floor.

Do NOT stay here. You can't count on even basic utilities, and they will not return your refund.

During the stay, it was terrible: Power outages, no heat on most nights, and when the electric was on, the dishwasher didn't work. The elevator didn't work. It was impossible to have trash removed. The staff would reply to every problem with 'we just fixed it', and seemed to have no idea what they were doing. Mind you, this was no heat or electric in November in DC!

After the stay, it got worse: couldn't get my deposit back despite repeated calls and emails. Finally got a check 6 weeks later for 355 less than promised. Still trying to get the rest back! I guess I'm lucky though, as a friend staying there at the same time still hasn't got his deposit back.

I stayed in this condo for a week in November and we had nothing but trouble either. First of all, we reserved the place for a certain price. On arrival they tried to increase the rate every way they could. We had indicated clearly there would be four people staying, however, they tried to charge us extra for the 3rd and 4th person everyone, which was never mentioned before. In order to use visa was another 5% on top, which was never mentioned before. IF they would have told me before hand, fine, than I would have know there were all these charges and would have calculated the Real Total Prices! I have, a month later not received my deposit back, which they promised to send back when I particularly addressed this at check out. I know we weren’t the one once because I heard various frustrating arguments going on at the front desk with other guest.
After all the trouble and incompetent manners during check-in we were very concerned about this place legitimacy and asked why their business license wasn’t displayed. Answer we got: because they didn’t have one yet to display. Very curious to me.
Elevator wasn’t working. People were not very friendly, at times even rude. Elevator didn’t work, every day we were promised it was going to be fixed the next day, which never happenend. Electricity and internet connection was on and off. Dishwasher wasn’t hooked up to water, stove didn’t work either. At one night we even were without heat, and light for four hours after complaining for multiple time they finally had someone look at it, without even apologizing.
The place was esthetically pleasing but bad quality. Particularly the windows were very poor, while sleeping at night we felt a strong cold draft coming from the windows so bad that we had to cover it up with pillows and sheets. A lot of the staff did not speak English very well, not to say very poor English. When I told the front desk our garbage was full and if there was a way to dispose of it, the person behind the front desk didn’t understand the word ‘garbage’. When I explained with simple English and some hand signals I got the reply that they were going to ‘fix it’ and a person with tools come by…..
There was no room service which was fine, because we rented a condo, but one nights two ladies came in the room with PAPER towels and a bottle with cleaning liquid– very unprofessional.
The pictures you see off the building are indeed of the building, but what the isn’t shown is the other 3 houses on the block that are abandoned, broken windows are covered with wooden sheets and on occasion some homeless hang around the steps of them. If there is no convention going on at the convention centre I imagine this is a pretty deserted, potentially sketchy street.
Apart from being close to the convention centre and being esthetically pleasing terrible experience with very incompetent people. I will never stay here again.
