The Hotel George is a nice enough hotel. It’s has a slick modern look to it, is clean and very convenient since it’s right by the train station. The neighborhood can get a little “iffy” if you walk a couple blocks in the wrong direction, but since I’ve been to DC many times, it’s easy enough to avoid the bad areas.
I had reserved a double room 2 months in advance, and confirmed the night before my arrival. When I got there, they apparently had no doubles left and had to give us a single with a roll away bed (Strike one). When we got to the room, turns out someone was already in it (Strike 2). Throughout the stay, I was never asked if I needed help with my bags, I would walk by the doorman who would make no effort to hail a cab, and on most occasions was nowhere in sight (Strike 3).
Although the cleaning people did an excellent job (the rooms were very clean), they came at rather inconsistent times. Before noon on some days, and not until 3 or so on others. Some nights they would turn the bed down, others they didn’t…it’s no biggie, but it just seemed like they didn’t have their act together 100%.
I’m glad I tried the Hotel George, but I have a couple other favorite hotels in DC, and all things being equal, I’d stay at those over the Hotel George.
