“Nice 4th of July stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We stayed in the basement apartment with a family of 5 and found it to be exactly as described on the Inn's website. The Hosts were pleasant and accommodating. It was wonderful after walking in the July heat to come home to a cool comfortable apartment. Thank you Jackie and Charles. Did I mention cookies waiting for you upon arrival. YUM!

Room Tip: If you want to be able to cook some of your own meals the Apartment is a great option.

Booked the ground floor apartment. Apartment itself is very decent - plenty of room for 2 adults, 2 teens on 3 night stay - living area w/ small dining table, W/D, small kitchen, bedroom and (tight) bath - central A/C. In general, furnishings a bit tired, but not objectionable and nicely decorated. Backyard outdoor sitting area is nice in the evening with wine and lightning bug show. Don't let the initial "walk up" put you off - apartment is fine, however, photos of exterior on web site taken in better times.

Walked to local Whole Foods (1.5 blocks west), for breakfast foods, snacks, wine, etc... very convenient. Restaurant area at Q and 14th is up and coming. Nearby El Centro and Stoney's is good for value / food.

A couple of other items to mention: 1) time to upgrade beddings, fold-out mattresses in particular 2) Subway stop is a long 4 blocks north, just be aware.

Room Tip: Breakfast not included with the Apartment.

We stayed at the Aaron Shipman house for our honeymoon and wouldn't change a thing. The house is located close to the bus-line, metro, and a fantastic area for experiencing the "local life" while dining (off 14th and P). The house is very well cared for and renovated while maintaining an historic vibe. The garden is fantastic; we particularly enjoyed hanging out on the patio after a long day with a couple of drinks before getting ready for our evening excursion. Before I forget...there was a large platter of cookies waiting near the front door..quite a treat for a daily sweet tooth. I highly recommend the Aaron Shipman house.

We spent a week in the basement apartment of the Aaron Shipman House B&B. It was very comfortable, and the location was perfect to find restaurants and close to a Metro station. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with them and their other guests. It felt like a home away from home, we enjoyed our visit immensely. The house has a very warm feel to it, it's lovely and spacious. It was the first time my family visited DC, and I would recommend such a vacation to visit the historical sites and experience the energy of it all.

My hosts were quite charming, the house is beautiful with a lovely historic look. It has the feel of an old, quaint house but has been kept up with enough modern amenities to make the stay very pleasant. The group breakfast is not to be missed. And lastly, the location in DC cannot be beat for things to do and people to see.

We spent three nights at this beautifully restored house and enjoyed it immensely. Hard to beat the entire package with the combination of a well equipped, clean and comfortable room in a sympathetically restored and furnished house with a lovely garden. The owners were absent in this case but it didn't matter as were were welcomed and looked after for the whole stay by Grace the charming and very friendly housekeeper and another lady (can't recall the name) who made everyone very welcome at a great breakfast each day. The house is within easy walking distance to both bus and metro transport and lots of restaurants and bars. Would have no reservations in recommending Aaron Shipman house as a place to stay in Washington DC.

My only regret was that my wife was unable to travel with me, and experience this wonderful B & B. I enjoyed eating at some of the restaurants around the area. Lots of good energy in the neighborhood. Taxis to and from my meeting were reasonably priced and easily attainable.

Room Tip: Be sure to call ahead if you need parking, which is limited. They are usually very accommodating i...
