“Exibits Closed, No animals......”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

Visited on Oct 15th.... found lots of closed exibits, and areas of the zoo closed, animals had been shipped to other zoos during construction...... very disapointing overall. I can see a elephant, lion, and reptiles in my local zoo.

Oh yeah, if you have potty trained small ones be prepared to run long distances to restrooms as they are few and far apart.

No fee for the park, but parking is expensive and fills fast since they have closed a lot, due to, you guessed it, construction.

“What could be more fun than a zoo? A zoo in the middle of the city!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

The National Zoo is a wonderful day spent in the city. This zoo boasts no admission fee, yet it is incredibly clean. The exhibits here are well-focused around each species -- with information on the animals life, health, diet, origin, etc. The gorilla exhibit was fascinating to watch as was the panda bear. The "Think Tank" which is where the orangutan lives was a really cool facility. There were chairs positioned around the glass home where you can sit and watch. Totally awe-inspiring.

“Yeah, but it has Pandas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

The National Zoo was unimpressive, except for the Pandas. It is free so there isn’t too much to complain about. The main park entrance is half way between the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park stations. It is an uphill walk from Woodley Park. Also, the main entrance is at the top of a hill so once you are in the zoo you have to keep in mind that you have to climb back up the hill to get out. There are many benches along the way so you can walk a little and then sit and catch your breath.

“Great DC attraction for families with young children”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

In a tough field of terrific Simthsonian attractions, the National Zoo is probably one of the best for young children. The meandering pathways give them plenty of room to move and explore. We visited in late August with family members who are DC residents. Our two year old grandson already knows his favorites - the pandas - but is just as thrilled by the orangutans swinging overhead along the O Line or by watching the elephant training from the overhead bridge . If you go with little ones, bring a stroller, as many of the park's paths are hilly and eventually even two year olds get tired. If you're driving, finding a parking spot on the hill above the zoo saves you parking fees. The zoo itself, as with all publicly funded DC museums and attractions, is free. Go early - by noon the zoo gets really crowded.

“One of the best zoo's in the USA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

The National Zoo is one of the most enjoyable zoos in the country. They offer something for everybody and it is one of the few places in the states that have Pandas. If you are in DC it is a must.
