“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

First thank you Kasey1945 for pointing me to the right direction. There are actually two parades, one on Tuesday nights at the Iwo Jima Memorial and the other on Friday nights at the Marine Barracks. I caught the Tuesday night one and it was impressive and would like to visit DC again to watch the Friday night one.

For the first half hour the marine band performed, marching to different types of music and the second half is the silent rifle drill. Like I said they were both very impressive and done in perfection. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and have a picnic but please clean up your mess. I can't believed people leave their trashes on the lawn, no respect.

You can either drive and leave your car at the Arlington Cemetery parking lot or take the Metro to Arlington Cemetery, a free shuttle will take you to Iwo Jima Memorial for the parade and back.

“Sunset Parade at IWO Jima”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Brought my 79 year old pops to this event last niight and he loved it. What a wonderful event - it is 1 hour and the music and performance is amazing. The event is free and you can picnic prior to the event. One of the most patriotic events I have attended.

It is a standing/istting event. Dad got tired of sitting and was able to stand in an area and see everything. Remember to bring a blanket. Get there early to get a seat in the center of the performance.

“Marine military splendour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Wonderful display of military splendour. The precision was magnificent and a very informative history lesson on the Marines and the barracks itself. The Presidents own band played extremely well. Do not miss this event. Sit somewhere in the middle for the best view.

“Where else would you get a choreographed 200 person show for free?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

First, trip planning suggestion. Avoid traffic--take Subway to Eastern Market and walk 3 blocks through safe shopping area. Lots of pubs in area if you are early. Second tip. If seats available, best to sit in middle, higher up. Third tip, plan in advance. Don't just show up as this show is only on Fridays during summer.

You will see the Marine Corps band & drum & bugle corps perform, crack marching companies, the fabled silent drill team, flag lowering ceremony and other events over the course of about 1 1/2 hours. A show that makes you proud to be an American
