“Felt a bit rushed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

As we hadnt been to DC as a family before, we thought this might be a good option. If I had to do it all over again, I recommend the following. Take the trolley the whole way around first...then pick two or three places to stop. Rather than buying a second day, park in the city for $10-$15/day and do the rest the second day. In one day we go to see Lincoln Memorial, Union Station, Congress, the White House, and the National Archives. The second day we elected to go it alone and had ample time to tour two of the Smithsonian Museums. We drove to Georgetown for dinner after we drove ourselves to the National Cathedral and down Embassy Row. We sitll left lots for another trip...you will never see it all in two days, but we saw enough to get a taste.

“Old Town Trolley's, it wasn't great but not bad.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We bought day passes on Old Town Trolley Dec 28th, 2013 in DC. It was ok.

Here is what they did right. Very clean and nice trolleys. The hop off and hop on concept is great, if it works. The drivers give a cute running commentary that appeared to be unique to the driver's creativity. The drivers and employees were very nice and helpful. The price was the least expensive option we found. Easy online purchase and printing of ticket.

What they didn't do well. I don't know if it was just this one day but they were totally overbooked. We couldn't get on the trolley's when we wanted to and ended up walking around most of the time. In fact it was pretty much a waste of our money. They advertise a money back option if not fully satisfied, but I decided not to go there because the last driver of the day actually helped us out with a covert drop off, which we tipped him well for.

We did get on the initial pick up spot with no trouble. But hop on and hop off wasn't realistic. The drivers were nice and apologized and promised to have dispatch send additional trolley's but we would have been waiting all day for that to happen. There were only one seat available on most trolley's during the busy hours of the afternoon and they don't allow standing. So you either send people one or two at a time, walk, or wait over and over for the trolley's to show and hope a bunch of folks get off. It wasn't at all convenient.

There is a problem with the stops on their Orange Line along the Capitol Mall, which covers the area around most of the popular memorials and museums. They don't have any useful stops along Constitution Ave. This was very inconvenient. I realized the issue before buying the tickets... but it was worse than I expected. I noticed other tours did have at least one stop along Constitution.

It wasn't at all horrible. It just wasn't worth the cash. If you absolutely cannot walk it is a viable alternative. But if you can walk on your own you may be better off to walk and save a few bucks for a taxi in the event of a long stretch. I would recommend with the caveat you don't want to use them on a busy tourist day.

“Easy way to see a big city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

They picked us up in front of the hotel and from there on, it was a great experience. We only had one day to see the city and the Trolley was the best way to do it. The narrators were very informative and made the tour more interesting.

“Memorable tour of the Monuments in D.C.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

The narrator made the trip all the more memorable. The experience was wonderful on a cold D.C. night, however the knowledgeable and personable tour guide/narrator made it memorable. She created a warm and friendly setting. Although I went alone, everyone on the trolley was looking out for one another which made it special. I would highly recommend you take the time to enjoy the "Monuments by Moonlight".
