“Plan for a Day at Air, Space Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

You will need a day to properly tour the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. You’ll view the world’s biggest collection of historic air and spacecraft. Be sure to see the Wright Bros. original 1903 Flyer, Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis, the Apollo 11 command module, and the exhibit on the history of early commercial flight. (For one of the airlines, young women needed at least two years of college or a degree in nursing to apply for a stewardess job.) It’s worth buying tickets to see To Fly and Air Racers 3D in the IMAX Theater. But there’s no charge for docent Charlie Henkin's excellent, two-hour guided tour of the huge museum.

Allow a few hours as this is one not to miss on a DC visit. Captures the young and old alike. From the Wright Bros to Space exploration this has it all in displays, pictures, charts and hands on activities.

“So cool, extra cool that it is free”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

This museum brought out the 9-year old boy in me. OMG the Apollo 11 capsule, OMG the Wright Brothers' plane etc. I think plenty has been said about it below - for me it was the absolute highlight of DC.

Take your kids, take your time, perhaps split into two half-days so it is not too overwhelming.

Note; They have a fast food court but unfortunately not a nice cafe - my wife would have appreciated that more whilst waiting for me and my teen boys to see everything ;-)
