“Walking along the National Mall in Washington, dC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

This mall is quite unique. People can walk on it, there are events there, including the annual Folk Life Festival that is held around July 4th. Many of the Smithsonian Museums border the mall, including the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, the Freer Gallery, the Sackler Gallery, the African Art Museum, the Hirsshorn Museum, the Air & Space Museum, the American Indian Museum, the Botanical Garden and the National Gallery of Art. Also, of course, there is the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Memorial and the National Capitol building. Plus, during the evenings, you might see a soft ball game, a game of touch football, or some other activity. If you visit Washington, DC, it is very hard to miss this great landmark.

Excellent! Great history . It is worth the trip just to visit the King Memorial, but there are so many more interesting things to do and see, many of which are free.

“Central Point of DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

The National Mall is a central location and the starting point for many places in DC. The Mall is impressively long and is surrounded by many museums and galleries on the long side, and on each end the Capitol building and the Washington Monument. The Smithsonian metro stop brings you right out onto the Mall. Wear comfortable walking shoes and enjoy the walk along the Mall. Have your lunch on the grass or on benches, watch people play, fly kites, play soccer, and do some sight seeing. It's a beautiful location.

“Too much to see in one day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

1st. Take metro. Blue and yellow lines drop off in the middle.
2nd. Pick one or two per day. Many are free but quite a distance apart.
3rd. Wear walking shoes. You will be on your feet a LONG time.

4th... in the middle of summer the heat may be quite exhausting. Plan accordingly.

Have fun.

“Word of the wise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Okay, here are a few pointers and tips on how to handle your day(s) here at the National Mall.

1: Unless you are walking distance from the Mall I recommend you dont take your car and attempt to park there, take the metro it is a lot faster and easier to get to and from your hotel.
The first day to the Mall we took our car and i'm not even lying, it took us an hour to find an empty parking spot.
So the second day we got a metro pass and it was MUCH easier, it pops you out right in the middle of the mall. PERFECT!

2: Depending on the age of your kids it's good to take small little breaks in between your walking. There is a lot of walking to do there.

3: You need at least 4 days there if you really want to see everything around the area. Take your time and take it all in.

4: Another good tip is to get the hop on and hop off busses, they give a great tour and drop off at great stops. It's also a good rest from all the walking.

Overall it's a great time!! Highly higly recommend it!
