“It's NOT a shopping center!”

it's beautiful, all the Smithsonian Museums, the art galleries, the Capitol building, the WWII building, the Washington Monument are on it. During the summer, the Smithsonian Folklife festival is held on it, which is very worth visiting.

“Great on a Nice Day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

What a way to spend the day! There isn't enough time to see everything in a weekend, that's how jam packed this place is with things to do. If you stand in the center you can see the Capitol, Washington Monument, White House, Jefferson Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. There is a lot of walking if you want to see even half of these. The distances are decieving between them, so be prepared.

“America's front yard!”

Everyone who visits DC ends up here. But sometimes the appreciation of this much open space in a major city is lacking. Go and revel in it.

“Great place to spend the day!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

There isn't enough time to see everything along the National Mall. It is deceiving... it looks easy to walk between monuments but the distances can be long. Wear comfortable shoes... bring water and snacks because food and drinks at the refreshment stands are very expensive. Parking is very expensive... we paid $22 for a couple of hours (same price for 1 hour or all day). There is a great website to scout out parking ahead of time: http://washingtondc.bestparking.com/. We had a large group so paying for parking was still cheaper than all taking the Metro. All of the museums are free. The free maps of the museums aren't real specific so it would be wise to research what you want to see at each museum ahead of time to make the most of your time at each place.

There is construction going on right now which pretty much ruins any pictures you want to take. Still, there are few places that have so many free attractions in one area!

“Surrounded by Museums but Under Construction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

The National Mall area is a must see as it is surrounded by wonderful, free museums and monuments but the mall itself is undergoing a lot of repairs that limits access, views, photographic opportunities and the ability to experience its grandeur. During our visit, the reflecting pool was drained for repairs but has since been refilled and the grassy areas to the east near the Smithsonian Museums was torn-up and fenced off and work on these grassy areas is expected to continue till fall of 2016.
