“Too bad it was being repaired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2011

Always a great view, but our trip in October was disappointing. There was construction and cranes marring the view. The view from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Memorial was terrible; the reflecting pool was drained for repairs. Hope it is repaired soon!

“Quick trip when short on time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2011 via mobile

We weren't't able to get to the Mall until dusk with heavy winds blowing around light rain. It made for an eerie view of the Washington Monument. The Lincoln Memorial was enormous with many steps to get to it. The Washington Monument was closed due to the quake, so we viewed it only om the ground. I was surprised the Mall was poorly lit. I recommend traveling in a small group if you visit after dark. The park is currently undergoing renovations, o we found the reflecting pond drained and work fences and detours abound. Overall the excursion was great fun with a lot of walking.

“surprise and please !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

I did not know what to expect and i was very surprise and please. There is so much to do in The Mall of Washington DC. All the museums are free and very interesting to visit. We were 5 and everybody were happy. We even had the chance to be there during the earthquake.Good thing it was not to scary and you could observe that the city people were quick and efficient to react to any situation. We felt safe everywhere we visit. The metro is so fast and well easy to use.Feel comfortable to get on the metro and visit all the city. You can easily stay anywhere close to a metro station and you will be happy. The restaurants we went were all good. Feel free to contact me if you want some recommendation. I really love my visit in WDC .

“A beautiful park and wonderful memorials”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2011

The Mall was a revelation as it was quite different to the impression one has of Washington from news pictures. It is a magnificent park stretching from the White House to the Capitol and taking in some of the most marvellous monuments to be seen anywhere. We went on both a twilight tour and a daytime trip so saw it in very different moods. We were able to see the White House, the Capitol, the Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam, Korean and Roosevelt memorials as well as visiting that of Martin Luther King which had not even been officially opened. The whole area is dominated by the Washington Monument, which was being inspected following the recent earthquake. We also saw the memorial to the dead of the Second World War.

Clearly the Americans attach a great deal of importance to honouring their great men and war dead and the overall effect matches that of the First World War cemeteries in Northern France.

We actually walked through some of the memorials in the dark without feeling any concern and a highlight was to see the three helicopters of the President's flight fly over the lake to the lawn of the White House.

“Great area of DC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

The Mall is a vast open space with the capital at one end and the Lincoln Memorial at the other. There is a convenient Metro stop right in the center. The left and right of the mall are many museums. If you are lucky you will see a demonstration on Capital hill or/and on the lawn it self.
