“World Class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Most people visiting the U.S. Capital gravitate towards the monuments and Smithsonian exhibits, but we are culture vultures and so were delighted to have this incredible collection pretty much to ourselves on a weekend visit! The Diaghilev show was outstanding and the regular collection was quite impressive. There is an excellent sampling of great art from all over the world, throughout the centuries. The treat was the American art that is so rarely shown in other countries. Museum guards are all delightful, friendly and well-informed. Don't miss the underground walkway between the two sections on the moving sidewalk underneath the fountains and sparkling lights.

You can't see it all, but what you do see is nice. And its air conditioned! Ha! Make sure you pace yourself.

“If you visit one art museum while in DC, make it this one”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

This is a fantastic, awe inspiring museum. We spent an entire day here, and still feel like we could have lingered and seen more. The collections are well organized and easy to navigate. We took our map and set out with our 13 year old who absolutely adores art. This museum was very spacious and there were times we found ourselves alone in some of the rooms, not that it was in any way crowded. After spending all day in the west museum, we didn't have the energy to visit the east, so we went there the following day. Didn't love it. Not our cup of tea art-wise. Back in the west building, the Da Vinci is not to be missed, as it is the only one in the western hemisphere... it's truly breath taking. We had lunch at the Cascade cafe, and that was a bit underwhelming, but enough to keep us going during our museum adventure. Please note, the staff is friendly to families, but everyone else does not want to listen to your screeching child who has no interest in being in a place they can't touch anything. It ruins the experience for everyone else.

“marvellous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

just a little difficult to find one's way around, but the staff were always helpful. I spent most of the time in the Impressionist era, which had a huge collection. The courtyard was so attractive, the entrance hall amazingly impressive. There were many people there, but was never too crowded.

“Wow! Art's Greatest Hits.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

This was my favorite museum in DC. Just a fabulous collection that never seemed to end. One interesting piece after another. Just outstanding.
The staff were very friendly, took a true interest and spoke in great detail regarding the artwork and museum layout. I could have spent three more days if I had the time.
