“World Class Architecture and Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

New to DC. This was my first museum visit here. Very pleased with the permanent collection. Several artists I'd not seen before. Ai Weiwei exhibition was terrific. So many pieces. So thought provoking. Something that looks from a distance like a rotted tree trunk is actually a work of amazing craftsmanship, and tells a story about modernization and the erasure of historic monuments.

“A fantastic museum & Sculpture Garden + great gift shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

What a setting the sculpture garden. The building itself is round. I went for the Ai Wei Wei Exhibition, that in itself is definitely worth seeing. What a creator! I thank God create talented people so we can all enjoy their work. If God only create people like me who do not have a thread of creative fiber, the world would be boring. The garden is lovely too. It is Smithsonian, so it is free. A donation is suggested and well deserved. Love it. Will go back even just to the garden. Only down side I find is that there is only one toilet in the basement near the gift shop. However, the gift shop is great. Pieces are not that expensive. Great place for Christmas shopping.

“Ai Weiwei Exhibit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

The Ai Weiwei exhibit is magnificent and truly inspiring. The exhibit includes not only his responses to tragedies in China like the earthquake of 2008 but crazy ideas like tying ballet shoes around a coke bottle. His genius lies in how he uses symbols to make a statement, whether artistic or political. It also includes many of his own photographs and lots of documentation to help viewers understand him and his work. The Hirschhorn did a terrific job curating this show. Be sure to pick up the $5.00 paper catalog. Who knows what this surprising man will contribute before he is done.

“Inspired!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Walked into Hirshhorn Museum and was surprised to find Ai Wei Wei exhibit. I have heard of him but have never seen his works. Only know that he is house arrested because of his art. How he relentlessly expose the darkness of injustice in the Chinese communist party. His works were totally inspiring. I particularly like the piece called 'Straight' and 'He Xei'
Don't pass by the gift shop. You can find some unique gift there.

“Our favorite "donut"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

You don't need a ton of time to feast your eyes on marvelous modern art in the big donut of the Hirshorn. We've never been disappointed by the exhibits and love the unique shape and how it lends itself to walking by all of the art in the round. Don't forget to walk through the garden just east of the museum (between it and Art & Industries building) It is a wonderland of plant life and a little get away. Gift shop is small but has fun unique items.
